I know I probably need to go back to the Dr but I'd just like to get some opinions from other people. I've felt like I've been fobbed off for years really. Sorry it's long.

I'm 24. I went to the Drs around 7-8 years ago (!) because I was bleeding between periods. I had an examinations, tests etc and was told I had thrush and an erosion but nothing else was wrong. I fainted after the examination and gave myself two black eyes.

Not long after this I started experience pain and occasional bleeding during sex. I went back to the Dr who did various tests and said I was fine (at one of these I heard the nurse ask if they should do a smear and the Dr said no, I wasn't old enough).

I was sent for an ultrasound which came back fine but I'd asked if I could not have the internal one or if it was essential (Dr said no they wouldn't see as clear but it all looked fine and I could not have it).

I eventually had a smear a year or so ago which came back fine. The Dr there told me I had a perfectly healthy looking cervix that was probably sensitive.

Drs at the hospital told me it was all in my head and have me some vaginal dilators. We can now usually get the second biggest in and can get his penis in but any movement hurts me.

I've now got endometriosis lodged in my head as a reason but I'm aware I can get a bit hysterical about these things, especially after so long. Would they have found it at the ultrasound/various internal exams?

  • I'm feeling tired all the time
  • There is a lot of blood 'round the back' when I'm on my period but I do use pads. Always assumed this was just normal.
  • I haven't bled between periods since I first when the Drs. I sometimes start my period with a bit of brown spotting which quickly becomes a heavier flow.
  • We haven't got anywhere with the pain during sex.

Endometriosis does not always show up on ultrasounds. It is worth going back to see the doctor and getting referred again. Do you have painful periods?

Chrysophylax · 09/04/2015 14:40

Sometimes, yes. Usually on the first day of my period. I'll try and get a Drs appointment but I worry they'll just tell me to keep trying with the dilators. I was told to use them as I'd got to the point where I couldn't get anything in at all without it hurting.

Then again I'm equally worried about being sent for a laparoscopy!

(I can't work out how/if I can edit a post)

Forgot to say thank you for your advice and the link. I'll try and get an appointment tomorrow. Do I just say I am still having the same problems and on top of that I feel tired all the time?

The people I know with endometriosis usually have bad period pain during periods. It sounds like they are treating you for vaginisimus, where the muscles tense and you cannot get anything in the vagina without it hurting - it is worth reading about this as there are several ways of overcoming it and you might need a bit more help in addition to the dilators.

Chrysophylax · 09/04/2015 15:28

Yes, vaginismus is what I'm being treaties for. What concerns me is that the pain started off only during sex. This made me more worried and stressed about sex to the point where I'd tense up and couldn't get anything else in. I've now got to the point where I can and it's generally not hurting me but any thrusting does.

Thanks for your responses. It's something I struggle to talk to DM and DS about and, as lovely and understanding as DP is, it's not quite the same.

Thanks! I went to the Dr today and he went through the past notes, letters from gynaecologist etc. He thinks I should see a female Dr if I want examining again (first internal examination I had I walked out of the Drs with two black eyes!) but sent me for blood tests to look into tiredness.
