Doc or no doc? 9.5 months post-partum, had major bleed today.

I'm not sure if I need to see my GP or not so am hoping for some advice.
As the thread title says, I had my 2nd baby 9.5 months ago, by ELCS. After about 3 months I started having very, very, heavy periods, which is something I am used to - I pretty much bleed so heavily I have to change pads every hour or not at all, both can last months.

Anyway, long story short, 4 weeks ago I went to my doc and she gave me a Depo Provera injection. My periods stopped almost instantly and I was starting to think that this might be what life is like for normal women.

The doctor did say that every so often I would have a slight bleed while on the injection, but this morning, I woke up with the worst period pain I have ever experienced, it kept going in waves and if I hadn't known better I would have thought I was in labour. I was in so much pain I almost called an ambulance. I tried painkillers but they didn't works, so eventually I had a bath, as a last resort.
Almost as soon as I got in the bath I passed two enormous clots, together the size of my fist, but they both contained quite a lot of white membrane and tissue.
I had an early MC 7 years ago, and this was totally different, so I don't think it was that. But I don't know what to do.
As soon as I passed them the pain subsided to a dull ache and has been pretty much the same since (this was about 8 hours ago).
My mum, an ex-midwife said it sounds like it could be retained placenta, but seriously, nearly 10 months later?
I don't know whether to bother my doc with it or whether it sounds like, for want of a better word, just a huge clear out and is normal.

Sorry for the TMI but can anyone advise if they have had similar experience?

Thanks

Did you keep the tissue that you passed?
I will definitely get it investigated

Did you keep it or flush it? You really could do with having it checked. I would pop to the GP and explain, see if they'll send you to be checked

Could you ring 111, they will be able to say if you need to see your doctor?

Definitely see your GP. You may need anti-b's.

It's highly unlikely to be RPOC. Infection would have been an issue before now.

I would return to the GP. Is depo your choice of contraception or was it used to treat the heavy periods?

Either way what you have described is far from 'normal'.

Best of luck.
