Lump at the base of my skull - unwell with temperature - do I need to see Dr?

Is it just a swollen lymph node?
I've come down quite quickly with a nasty cough and temperature (especially at night) and a runny nose (!)
Feeling rotten with it.

So my questions are:
Do I worry about the lump or just assume it will disappear on its own?
Any tips on shaking off this virus? We're supposed to be going on holiday in a few days. At the moment I'm not sure I could stand long enough to get through check in. I'm so pissed off! ARGH!

I had this 2 weeks ago but had big lump under my ear. Came on very suddenly with sore throat, temperature and aches...like flu. Sounds like the lump is probably a gland. Poor you - it's not nice.

Yes, I have the aches too Sad
How long did it take for you to feel better Elly?

I've had this many times, latest was last wk. lasted three days. Went away on its own. The first time it happened I did go to the doc as was very big and very painful. They were very reassuring.

I'm no doc though so if you are able to get an appointment then it might be worth getting them to have a look.

Wouldn't rush to doctor as likelihood is that is a lymph node. Common spot for them to appear when an infection on board.

Obviously if it persists (ie for more than 2 weeks ) or your symptoms don't settle please seek proper advice.

Get well soon

Where do you mean by base of skull? DH had parotitis and had quite a dramatic swelling under the angle of his jaw - looked like mumps. Was a bacterial infection of his parotid gland and needed a couple of courses of antibiotics to get rid. So if it's there I would suggest someone has a look.

Thanks all Flowers It doesn't seem to be as big today, it is tender though. I'm pitching for the gland thingy. If it is any worse when we get back from hols I'll get it checked.
Jennifer - no a different spot, this one is at the back of my head!
