horrible threadworm in 2.5 year old

Help!! I've just spotted a threadworm in dd's poo. I feel sick and worried. She's been weeing in her pants a lot today, one after the other and I'm sure it must be something to do with this. I can't get a doctor's appointment for today so I'll just worry until tomorrow. I've looked up previous threads on this so once I get the treatment I'll blitz clean the whole house but in the meantime I've got to get through the rest of the day. Am I over reacting? DD is only 2.5 so she seems too young to have this but maybe she's caught them from ds who goes to school although I haven't seen any signs of threadworm. Just need some moral support please.

Any age can get them and yes they can cause the wetting! If my dd ever has accidents you can bet its because we have a threadworm invasion (again)
Treat everyone, cut nails short and fingers crossed. Chat to pharmacist they are as useful as gp with this! Ovex or pharmacies own brand stuff for the whole family.

You don't ned to wait for a Doctor's appointment as you can buy it over the counter. Good luck - it is a rite of passage as a parent unfortunately.

Don't worry. Don't panic. Pop to the chemist now and ask for treatment age appropriate(you don't need a GP).

Don't forget to by a family pack. Ovex is a popular brand but I think for toddlers you may be better with the yucky raspberry drink ones (Pripsen?).

if you get ovex, ask for the liquid, the powder is a bugger to get them to take.

Mum2lovely2 Im in the same situation as you at the moment, My ds is 4 and we found he had them on Sunday, got to the docs on Monday and he gave us all meds to take,Dd 18 mths took hers and it contains senna so made her loose (sorry tmi) and there were some in her nappy too. She had shown no symptons at all.I was mortified. Im knackered with all the cleaning and having to wash all the bedding and towels every day. Goodluck.

Pripsen is the raspberry one (comes with two different sorts of active ingredients, either is fine in over 2 but Mebendezole more effective, I think) but my 2.5 year old rather enjoyed her banana flavoured Ovex

Shimmy, sorry to pick your brains on this one again, but does the pant wetting just go on till treated? Again, dd has had the occasional bad day with accidents, but then been right as rain next day....god, I'm so paranoid (see other thread) ever since I learnt about threadworms .

the docs give dd Prispen which we put in her bottle ds got a banana flavour med and we got tabs.

'raspberry' is a very loose term to describe that flavour! I used to get worms all the time when I was a kid; itchy and revolting, but not the end of the world. The doc told us that eating alot of raw carrots helps!

Yes, I had Pripsen with Piperazine (be careful, they do both sorts and dh originally came home with wrong one) as pregnant, and its the same for under 2s.

Am I the only one to have treated a whole family for unseen possible threadworm? I'm starting to think dh is right about me being pregnantly paranoid...he only took his Ovex to humour me

It says on the prispen that babies can only have one dose in 28 days, I was going to give us all a 2nd dose in 2 weeks.Does this mean she will only need the or shouyld i give her a 2nd dose after 28 days? Also how long before you stop seeing them in poo and on the anus after treatment?

Leandevil, I don't know...hope someone else does..but imagine if you haven't seen any more in her nappies by 28 days she won't be needing the second dose? I read the packet, and my understanding was to give the second dose at 28 days, but I might be wrong.

Thanks everyone for all this helpful advice. I can't believe how quickly you all responded. I know I could get the treatment at the pharmacy but I'm too embarassed to ask for it in the chemists. If I get the medicine tomorrow and then clean the whole house top to bottom after we have all taken the medicine is this more effective than getting the medicine today and dedicating tomorrow to cleaning? Or does it not matter either way?

Thanks Leandevil, I think I'll do that because I hate the thought of not doing anything about it until tomorrow so I'll brave the chemists today.
