Have you ever had to take in Terbinafine or Itraconazole tablets to treat toenail fungal infection?

I have tried so many things and nothing works. I am going to make an appointment with a doctor and ask for the tablets. Worried about the side effect but have read the doctor should make the test first to see if my lever functions well.
Any suggestions would be well appreciated.

P.S. I need to treat three toenails. They grow crumbled with a hollow space. Yuks. But I feel so desperate and frustrated.

I had severe fungal toe nails for years! One of my toe nails grew vertically and ripped all my socks and I suffered in the hot weather because I was too embarrassed to wear sandals.
I was prescribed Terbinafine last June, all my nails look normal except the two big toes which just have about 2mm to grow out.
Wish I'd done it years ago!
Also had the added benefit of clearing up my itchy dry foot skin, my DP used to call me a preying mantis as I was continually waking him up rubbing my feet together in the night

Me ex used terbinafine to treat his toenails, it worked a treat.

I've just been prescribed Loceryl nail lacquer for mine. Have no idea if it's going to work. I have to put it on once a week.

Thank you again for giving me some hope. Couldn't make a call this morning due to having a laryngitis. Do they prescribe the medicine and then make test after four months or how do they check your liver is functioning well?

Have you tried tea tree oil? Pharmacist once told me to file the surface of my nails and apply tea tree regularly. It worked.

Oh okay, it was just a thought and worked for me. I hope the terbinafine sorts you out.

Footie, thanks for clarifying everything. In my case I have tried many things. I have read that you need to get rid off the fungus not only from outside but also from the inside. That is why topical things do not always work.
