Vomiting over long period of time - no other symptoms

My son (17) is super fit (boxing or gym 5 nights a week) and has a healthy diet. He apparently has had random vomiting 2-3 times a week for some time (at least a year I've just found out) - there are no other symptoms. Exercise can be a trigger but yesterday, for instance, he vomited, shortly after eating breakfast. I wasn't aware until yesterday that this had been going on for such a long time. I am fairly certain it is not bulimia as he wants to put on weight (he is 6' and 11 stone). We managed to get a drs appointment yesterday and he went for blood tests this morning but results won't be back til next week. Does anyone have any suggestions - I'm worried about him.

Thanks - one of the reasons he hasn't managed to put on more weight is that he finds it physically impossible to eat larger quantities of food.

Surgery have just rung and asked him to go in. Apparently the blood test shows a vitamin d deficiency
