Embarrassing gurgling tummy problem

I go to a writing class every week first thing in the morning. Every week about halfway through my tummy starts rumbling and gurgling and it's so embarrassing, because it happens when people are reading out poetry or stories and the room is very quiet.

Halfway through the class we are served drinks and I always have plain water. It seems to trigger the gurgling as soon as I take even a tiny sip. I don't want to not have the water at all as it would seem odd and they already think I am odd not having tea or coffee like everyone else (I don't like them).

It doesn't seem to make any difference what I eat for breakfast.

Can anyone help?

sounds like a nervous thing to me. i have exactly the same problem when i am in lectures. the lecturer is talking away with everyone listening and my tummy is going ballistic. it is embarassing and like u said, eating more doesnt do anything.
try some relaxation techniques before your class. yoga or meditation. just simple breathing techniques will do.

Thanks alexa, but I don't think it's nerves. I've been going to the same class with the same people for years and years and I'm very relaxed with them. I'd be more nervous about the gurgling tummy than reading my work out!

It really does seem very connected with the drink of water. Perhaps I should just stop having the water.

I don't know if I do to be honest. I do get a lot of tummy upsets, especially if I'm stressed.

sounds like ibs. stress brings it on. there are a couple IBS threads on here, read them and see if any of your symptoms match those of other ibs sufferers. i suffer with ibs and its brought on by stress.

Thank you alexa.
