Write to the practise manager or the counsellors that oversee the running of the surgery. It's the only way to get things changed short of camping out on the surgery doorstep for an appointment.

can you drive round there whilst phoning ( on hands free!) to see if you can get through...if not , you can actually walk in and make an appt......

Many practices have introduced this so that they can tick a box that says patients get an appt within 24 hours of telephoning. Some places won't let you make an appt at the desk in person - you have to go away and phone. The fact that you spend a whole week trying to get through seems to be neither here nor there. A friend of mine finally wrote a letter to her doctor asking for a written reply to her questions about her blood test results as she was unable to get an appt and had been phoning for 3 weeks. Getting test results doesn't count as an emergency, so no appt. The gp phoned her and they had a chat over the phone. All the work goes to A&E and walk in centres, all nights and weekends covered by out of hours services. It's mad.
