If you've had shingles how long did it take to recover?

As in from a pain point of view but also did you have general fatigue for some time afterwards?

Dd has been screaming in agony for six days now and has been unable to walk since Monday due to the pain.

Still can't put any weight on her leg. I can't see she'll make school next week.

Up to four weeks for the rash to clear but the pain can linger for months apparently.

Screaming in agony? Have you seen a Dr to get proper pain relief?

Figfog · 22/03/2015 16:29

The proper, immediate horrible pain lasted about 2 weeks for me. I had the rash on my side and I couldn't twist my upper body, go in the shower or lie down.

I then had another 2 weeks of fatigue with the rash from it but the actual sever pain was gone. I had shingles 2 years ago and I still get the odd flair up of pain where the rash was but it's very manageable and doesn't last long at all.

I hope your daughter feels better soon- it's really horrible!

Yes been back to the Dr about the pain. It's not constant, comes on in a wave every now and then or if she tries to walk.

Dr wasn't very interested and said it is painful. Wouldn't prescribe local anaesthetic patches which I asked for. Also reckons she's too young for a pain killer which would work specifically on nerve pain such as amyltriptelene. So she's got cocodamol and ibuprofen, which doesn't make any difference at all.

I'm hoping it's going to be another week max rather than lingering for months. She's only been to school for a week since half term and she's not going to get back before Easter.

Oh poor thing. Hope things improve sooner rather than later. Could you ask to see a different doctor? Doesn't sound like yours was very sympathetic.

Thanks. She's meant to be going back to the GP for a check over next week so will take her on Tues and hopefully we get a different Dr.
