Thrush-like symptoms for years but tests always negative. What do these symptoms sound like?

Can any kind soul help suggest what these symptoms may be? I've taken 17 year old DD to GP on average once every 8-10 weeks, but we're no further forward. The GP keeps suggesting it's thrush and gives her canesten which doesn't work, and the swab comes up negative each time.

It's really affecting her wellbeing Sad

Dd has been having thrush-like symptoms on and off for years, but near constant the past 2 years.

Fluctuating symptoms including:

  • stinging during urination
  • inflamed vulva (blotchy and bumpy spots)
  • stabbing pain in vulva
  • nausea
  • fish-like odour
  • lower abdominal and back pain

Symptoms are usually worse around monthly periods. She has been trialling various contraceptives to control the symptoms, but they're not having any effect.

Never been in a relationship.

Does not use any scented bath and body products, and laundry detergent is non-bio.

Can any kind soul please help Flowers

doesn't sound like thrush particularly. Bacterial Vaginosis causes fishy odour.

I also think it sounds like bacterial vaginosis.

I suffered it for a while, think it was made worse by using scented bath products and shower gels.

GP gave me a cream (can't recall the name!) and it cleared up a treat.

I thought I had thrush recently but it was dermatitis. Steroid cream cleared it right up. The fishy odour does sound like BV to me, I think you can buy treatment for that OTC.

Thanks everyone. It sounds like it could be BV then. I don't understand why the GP didn't suggest this after so many consultations Hmm Angry
