We were almost at our 1000 post limit for Thread 51 - hope the title is OK but wanted people to know that we aren't just about people on Tamoxifen but for all with cancer concerns!

Boobz definitely better if you can get the chemo done in Italy. And don't think of driving in Week1 (hideous thoughts of driving in Rome with chemo brain).
Nanny we are staying near Honiton but may make a nostalgic trip to Exeter where I was a student many centuries ago!

Thanks nanny, I've been reading a bit more and NICE say not to take it in my situation. I'm a bit shocked, it could be really dangerous for me and I've lost a bit of faith in my GP now. Not sure how to handle this with her.

lovebeingananny · 03/04/2015 09:50

lily who knows we may cross paths and never know Wink hope you have a great time xx

savemefromrickets · 04/04/2015 06:08

Don'task, I had cording and it was just like that. The good news is that the physio is very effective. You could try phoning your breast care nurse to see if they can get you seen quicker, for example, mine referred me to a local day hospice for physio (this service is available to any cancer sufferers by me, you don't have to have a terminal prognosis).

I have to admit to watching YouTube videos before my appointment which gave me some ideas about massaging and stretching it. That helped a little.

Speedypenguin · 04/04/2015 08:12

Boobz sorry that things are still not clear for you. What a difficult situation to be in. I hope you get answers soon so you know how to plan ahead.

Don'task glad your drains are gone but sorry that one didn't play nicely for you. It is so much better when they are out. You will start to feel better but it does take time. Am afraid I don't know much about cording. Hoping you feel much better soon.

Running out of charge so better dash. Have a good day all.

lovebeingananny · 04/04/2015 08:43

dontask sorry to hear you are feeling rough. But just wanted to say swelling in your arm after surgery is totally normal and doesn't mean you have Lymphoedema or that you will go on to have it. I for one had no swelling post surgery and started developing swelling 6 months later. So try not to worry too much.

I had slight cording and was told by BCN to do the exercises that I was given post op, plus to massage the arm, and stretch it against the wall. After a couple of days I managed to 'snap' the cording. It didn't hurt but sounded awful! Snapping the cords is what a physio will try and do using massage and stretching.

Mine started a few months post surgery, so you might need to be a bit more careful as you have only just had surgery. Just keep up with your exercises that they have given you. Hope you start to feel a little better soon. Xx

Sorry not to reply to everyone individually, am away for the weekend but just wanted to say that I read this morning that Kylie is coming up to 10 years since she had breast cancer which I found quite encouraging Smile

Marshy · 05/04/2015 18:15

Just a quick check in to say happy Easter to one and all.

Hope everyone is busy drinking wine eating chocolate having a nice time.

I am cooking a late roast whilst overdosing on Pride and Prejudice and a little wine Gotta love Elizabeth Bennett.

BsshBosh · 05/04/2015 19:27

Yes, happy Easter one and all. We started the day with DH popping lamb into the oven then out for a run whilst I took DD to Church. Then a full house of visitors for lunch. A lovely day. I had my chemo on Thursday yet felt okay all weekend. Just broke away from all the hubbub for a few naps and quiet time each day, which has helped me cope.

mrsrhodgilbert · 05/04/2015 22:37

Happy Easter everyone. I've had a lovely weekend, 'twas my birthday yesterday, very happy to see the back of my 50th year. Guess what I wished for as I blew the candles out? I'm rounding it off with a touch of Daniel Craig - I wish!

Next week DH and I have a night away for our 27th wedding anniversary and on Friday I see my surgeon again for a check up. Quite a week.

For everyone else expecting answers, recovering or having treatment next week, best wishes.

lovebeingananny · 06/04/2015 08:44

mrs wishing you belated Birthday wishes! Hope you had a fantastic day. Good luck with your appt on Fri, I will be joining you as I have to see Gynaecologist for the biopsy results. I'm almost certain that all will be fine, although I am slightly worried that the Tamoxifen has caused all this and so there's a possibility that they will want to keep a close eye and that I might have to go through this again! Although I hope not!!

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter xx

BsshBosh · 06/04/2015 17:01

Happy birthday mrsrhod!

Boobz · 06/04/2015 18:25

Happy birthday Mrsrhod!

Had a lovely bank holiday Monday lunch at a lake just north of Rome - I was acutely aware this was probably my last day of "normal" life for a while. Three Four familes, 9 children, amazing red wine and blue blue skies and lake. A whipping wind through the grass but lovely sunshine the whole day. It was just perfect, and the kids' whinging was a lot less than usual as a bonus!

I looked out across the lake and definitely felt calm, even though everything is still so unsure. No treatment plan in place, no idea what kind of cancer, grade or stage etc., - just that I will have to kiss them all goodbye tonight and not see them again for at least 2 weeks, maybe more. So surreal.

So DH and I are off to the Wellington early doors tomorrow, grandparents have arrived to take the helm, and the nanny has been briefed on how to work the TV. I can't quite believe this is happening.

Lilymaid · 06/04/2015 18:53

Happy Birthday MrsHod!
We dropped DS2 off at Heathrow this morning to fly out to the U.S. for 10 days ( he's taken his revision notes for his May exams) and see his girlfriend. We then went on to Cliveden where it was a glorious sunny day and full of families on the Easter egg hunt (and a few unaccompanied oldies like me and DH). Got back to the grey of E Anglia to pack for the pig farm trip.
Scan next Monday so shall have a good week before the panic sets in!
Hope you have all had a good Easter and plenty of chocolate.

HB2U, HB2U, HB Mrs H...., HB2U. Hope you had a lovely day.

Good luck for your forthcoming 2 weeks boobz. Will be thinking of you.

Sending good vibes to all having tests/scans and waiting on results.

Cording - I had it quite badly all the way down my arm. It was flippin painful, much more so than the surgical wounds. I did my exercises and stretched it out regularly (used to sit on the sofa watching TV with my arm stretched out along the back cushion) and it went away. No trace at all now though I do sometimes feel a bit stiff on both sides so regular stretching is probably a good idea.

Work for me tomorrow.

malteserzz · 06/04/2015 20:24

Happy birthday Mrs Rhod :)

Boobz I felt quite teary reading your post, it will be hard but sending you good vibes that you get your treatment plan soon then I'm sure things will start to feel a little easier x

Lily enjoy the pig farm !

mrsrhodgilbert · 06/04/2015 21:35

Thank you all for the birthday wishes, I've had a lovely few days and the weather has been unbelievable. I even sat out in the garden today in a strappy top, with DH telling me to cover my rads area from last summer. I Was a bit grumbly about that.

Nanny, I'll think about you on Friday getting your results. Fingers crossed.

Lily, hope you have a good week and can keep your mind off next Monday.

Boobz, I really hope the hospital have some answers for you tomorrow. The usual scenario would be a proper diagnosis and treatment plan all within the same appt. It takes a lot of concentration to get through it, maybe with your DH taking notes as mine did. Lots of new terms that you won't want to learn but quickly will, then you can plan how you're going to work it.

Hello to everyone else.

Speedypenguin · 06/04/2015 21:41

Happy Birthday Mrsrhod.

Thinking of you Boobz.

Hope the pig farm is fun Lily.

Glad you had a nice Easter Bssh.

So tomorrow we are off for our postponed holiday. Not too far but it will be nice weather by the look of it and the boys are very excited. I haven't been away for such a long time so can't wait. Will not be taking any technology so will catch up when I get back.

Hope everyone had a lovely Easter.

trice · 06/04/2015 22:55

I hope you all had some nice chocolate and good times with your loved ones this weekend.

ConsiderablyBiggerBuns · 07/04/2015 20:47

Happy belated birthday mrs. And happy belated Easter to everyone else.
If the weather in Devon is anything like it is here in Cornwall then the pig farm should be idyllic lily. I spent the afternoon cleaning out the chicken shed (long overdue) so pigs even seem like a nice idea aromatically! Wishing you a good holiday as well speedy.
dontask hope you are feeling better.
boobz, thinking of you. Things are so much better once you have a plan.
Good luck with results nanny and mrs and anyone else who I have forgotten. Tomorrow is one year from my BMX. The year has passed in a haze. My reconstruction appt has been postponed for 2 months which is a bit frustrating as I was quite excited about it, but can't have the op until October anyway so shouldn't hold up the surgery.
Question: it is now 6 months post chemo and my eyelashes, eye brows and under carriage hair are still not growing back properly. I've tried vitalash which was a very expensive way of getting sore eyes. Anybody out that that has had hair grow back after that long, who can give me hope, or can I expect to have a goatee for life (and I'm not talking about on my face!).

mrsrhodgilbert · 08/04/2015 08:33

I hope the situation with your parents is improving buns and you've got some help now.

DH and I are off to Whitby for the night for our anniversary tomorrow. Instead if packing boots and coats its going o be converse and t shirts, might even have a little paddle if we get to Robin Hoods Bay. Trying not to think about appt with surgeon on Friday, I keep feeling for new lumps and bumps.

Boobz, I hope you know your situation now and are being fully supported through the scary first few days.

Hello to everyone else, hope you can enjoy the sunshine.

BsshBosh · 08/04/2015 10:57

Argh, am being plagued by mouth sores/ulcers on tongue and inside cheeks! My fault for not dealing with them early enough and now I can't eat anything other than Ensure drinks. Anyway, am now attacking with Difflam and Sucralfate mouthwashes. I'm craving sushi and DH and I are due to eat out on Friday so praying I can get on top of these sores in time.

malteserzz · 08/04/2015 11:10

Bosh have you tried that iglu stuff I found that quite good, it's like putty which covers the ulcer. Hope they go soon

Buns I have heard that Vaseline encourages eyebrows and lashes to grow, not sure about other areas !

Mrs Rhod happy anniversary and have a lovely trip

hotchocforme · 08/04/2015 17:03

Hi everyone. I am new here. I had my first appt yesterday and the consultant said he couldn't be sure until the biopsy results come back, but he thinks I have breast cancer. I get the results next week.

You seem a friendly bunch so I think I'll stick around.

endlessdistance · 08/04/2015 17:58

Thinking of you, Boobz. x
