What cream should I get for blood on toilet paper?

I am not sure whether I have haemarrhoids - piles - or an anal fissure, I had one of those before.
I am never constipated, well hardly ever.
but I do have fresh blood on the paper and occasional dripping blood - I can sense it, on my knickers.

I am not going to GP. been there, done that, not again Blush
But I wondered what cream I should apply. last time 20 years ago i bought germalene.

Why are you not going to the gp?

Fairylea · 20/03/2015 08:45

If its piles you need Anusol. But really you should see the gp just to check that it's nothing else - if it's severe piles there are creams you can get on prescription that are stronger and work better.

marmaladegranny · 20/03/2015 08:45

I think you mean Germaloid - not germalene!

SusanSocks · 20/03/2015 08:45

because it is probably piles or a fissure, it is fresh red blood

Sorry you must go to the doctor.

SusanSocks · 20/03/2015 08:46

oh cross posts,
thanks
Anusol

Even if it is fresh blood you should see the gp. My dh has just this week undergone tests for bowel cancer due to finding fresh blood a lot when he wiped. I don't mean to worry you and hopefully it is nothing but it's something gps do take seriously.

SusanSocks · 20/03/2015 08:49

best wishes to your DH fairlea

Thank you Susan. Please do get checked and I hope you feel more comfortable soon. Flowers

InfinitySeven · 20/03/2015 08:53

Please don't pressure it's piles or a fissure - it might be, but then again, they don't usually drip.

Your doctor will be best placed to diagnose, and they'll likely be able to give you a better cream, too. Anusol could irritate if it isn't piles, for example, and if it's a particularly severe case, you might need a prescription-only medication.

You could ask for a female doctor or nurse if it makes you more comfortable?

All the best.

Am going to try Sudocreme,
Cant feel piles but skin sore

Piles do not have to protrude- they can be internal. So can bowel polyps that may be benign or malignant.

You are being silly, you know.

Any bleeding ought to be investigated and if you have already been assessed in the past for this then all the more reason to go back again.

What is 5 mins feeling embarrassed compared to dying from bowel cancer?

SusanSocks · 20/03/2015 10:57

oh I didnt know piles didnt always protude.
I have had months of antibiotics - which caused excessive bowel movements, therefore not consitpated. had a look at some old threads about anal fissures. and might go for anusol

If you have a fissure it might heal itself or it might need minor surgery.

But you are shooting in the dark you know!

Is it really such an awful thought to have a dr look at your bum for 30 seconds and put your mind at rest? I think you need to face up to this and stop being head in the sand.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 20/03/2015 12:02

Dripping blood = need medical attention

You can ask for a female doctor if that helps

specialsubject · 20/03/2015 12:06

get your arse to the doctor. Why would you not?

vjg13 · 20/03/2015 12:07

Please just see your GP, this is really not the time for a trip to the pharmacy and self diagnosis. Good luck.

Nolim · 20/03/2015 12:19

get your arse to the doctor.

I couldnt put it better.

StopTheFog · 20/03/2015 12:24

Go to the doctor. It could be rectal or anal cancer, both of which drip bright red blood. Don't be so dim.

pinkfrocks · 20/03/2015 12:30

If you are literally dripping blood then it's not going to be fixed with a dab of Anusol is it? If you can't see a tear then something is going on further up and you need to get it sorted.

SusanSocks · 20/03/2015 16:45

then i am worried it might be an anal fistula which sounds just too awful to deal with.
thanks for your words

Please go to your GP. I had fresh red blood, intermittently.. Then months later it developed into diarrhoea but still intermittent fresh red blood.Unfortunately it turned out to be bowel cancer.

BsshBosh · 20/03/2015 16:57

By the time they diagnosed it had progressed to liver. I hate being alarmist and in the majority of cases it's not cancer. But early detection of Basel cancer means it's curable. Leave it to late and it's not curable.

SusanSocks · 20/03/2015 17:02

thanks for sharing bsshbosh Flowers

Can also be Crohn's, you need to speak to a GP...really. I know you don't want to be can your baby survive without you if you don't look after yourself?
