went to doctors for blood test results , my white count slightly low 3.5 she said normal range is over 4 ....said all other blood tests are fine ,although iron low )but thats nothing new) going to re test in 2 months ...
in past (last 10 years ) at times have had slightly low white count and its always come back up ...so trying to find comfort that this may be just a blip and not to over react .... Hmm

any one els had this or similar and not cause for concern ....

I've had this following a virus that I'd barely noticed I had. A few weeks later it was back up to normal.
My DS had the same too. I'm sure yours will be fine too. It's easy to worry though.

ballofworry · 17/03/2015 07:39

thanks , yes feel ok , tired but nothing major still up and about ...she said not to worry and all other white blood tests/ red count were fine and if something really wrong all would be crashed ...so trying not to google or think to into it ...

I had similar happen to me a couple if years ago - blood test for low iron showing up revealing low white blood cell count. Ended up going back to gp & hospital clinic several times for same result each time. In the end they tested me for just about everything related to low white blood cell count and found nothing so decided I was just on the low end naturally- an average does mean some people will be a bit higher and some a bit lower. The consultant was very sweet and said she personally checked my blood under the microscope and could see that although I didn't have many white blood cells the ones I did have were perfectly formed:) My gp also thought there might have been a possibility that the mefenamic acid I was taking to reduce blood loss during periods (link with low iron) might have interfered with my blood cell production so stopped taking that. Hope you are monitored and find out that you too are just naturally lower than average- definitely push for hospital clinic referral for further tests to be sure.

Hi ballofworry
I had a similar result before Christmas. My ferretin/ iron was very low as was my white blood count.
My GP said he was fairly sure it was due to the low iron levels. I took supplements (still am) ate healthier and had bloods repeated four weeks later. WBC was normal and iron count increased also.
The practice nurse also said its really common to have a low WBC if iron levels are low. I too have anxiety issues, specifically health anxiety so I completely understand the distress you are feeling.

ballofworry · 17/03/2015 19:57

Thank you so much dirtyF that's helped me feel a little better . I have low iron on and off for years and now take iron when I have my period , going to test in a month or so , so hope will gone back to normal
And yes health anxiety is horrid when takes hold

I've had this a few times, my white blood count is normally 4 something and so if I'm fighting a virus or something it will dip under into the 3s then bounces back up again. Fairly sure this is normal OP, my GP just says it shows your body is doing its job.

ballofworry · 19/03/2015 07:22

Arr thank you august , really help full hearing that , i was / am a little concerned but helpful hearing others have had similar and seems quite common , as iv said my doctor said im not to worry but will re test in few months , i have felt run down ,but thank fully changed my working days now so got a little more time off so trying to look after myself better , eating healthier , rest etc ...
and the fact i have had this in the past (years) now and again and has gone back up again so thats something to consider to ..

Hi ballof just came accross your post and wanted to hopefully give you a bit more reassurance. Me & DH have had a virus this past week or so, I've just felt hot and achy and like I've got a bad cold, rather he's beside me now sweating cobs!! Definitely something doing the rounds!
I'm really sure your fine. I really have had the 'just below normal' blood count quite a few times and have had quite a few docs tell me it's fine and would be a lot worse if there was something seriously wrong. I really know that doesn't help when your panicking there's something wrong, I promise you I'm a terrible worrier at times too. But you will get through this.
Hope you feel abit better.

ballofworry · 26/03/2015 10:28

Thank you August , my doc did say that also , all bloods would be trashed and other indicators so I'm hanging onto that ... I'm going to re book bloods in a few weeks so hopefully I will feel better and all will be ok .. I shouldn't have googled as that's set me off far worse ..
thank you for listening hope your hubby and yourself are feeling better soon to x

Had a phone call saying my white blood cells are low along with something else but I cant remember what is was.
I'm stressed to hell and panicking thinking ive got cancer now. Got to wait till the 2nd of June for more blood tests

minniemouseshouses · 23/05/2021 17:05

Hi, I’ve had similar phone call from gp and turned out to be very minor anomalies. And low white are really common. If the doctor was worried about serious illness they would not wait to further investigate. To make yourself feel better perhaps you could call back and ask to have a print or electronic copy of the results, or ask for a phone consultation on them?
