uti, kidney infection and nitrofurantoin?

poppymoon · 14/03/2015 09:46

the nagging cystitis i developed last weekend got worse so on thursday i saw my gp. wee instantly showed leucocytes, blood and protein so i was given a 7 day course of nitrofurantoin.

i know i'm only on day 3 but i don't feel any better. yesterday was a blur of sleep, sweating and confusion and today isn't looking promising.

any advice on helping the healing process please?

Did your GP send a specimen to the lab? You am not be on the correct antibiotic. Call ooh and they might be able to chase the result and arrange another prescription if that is the case.

Don't leave it,you sound really quite poorly and a kidney infection can be very nasty.

i'm not aware that he was sending it off matilda. last time i think he only sent it off when it didn't respond to one or 2 courses of the usual abx (by which time i was very ill).

i've eaten today so maybe i'm starting to feel better.......gone from feeling too hot to not being able to get warm at all. my hands and feet are freezing.

tbh if you are feeling cold rather than hot than could mean you have more of a temperature than before. Cold extremities ... ring OOH /111 for advice x

i took some high strength co codamol and have slept for hours. i don't feel weird temperature fluctuations at the moment so i'll keep up with the pain killers. x

Usually, if the dip that the Dr does shows any infection the sample will be sent to the lab as a matter of course for a culture.

This will isolate the exact type of infection and the results will list the antibiotics that particular infection is sensitive to.

That said, if your symptoms are worsening rather than getting better or staying the same, please call OOH for advice.

You could end up in hospital for iv antibiotics if left. That can become necessary very quickly so please do t leave it until tomorrow. This is what OOH are there for.

I had all of this. It was a kidney stone so do consider that
