I have had what has admittedly been a bastard of a cold for two weeks now. I just can't shake it off. Been to see the nurse who listened to my chest, poked around a bit and said no infection, I just need to rest. I am exhausted and run down, so fair enough. But I HAVE been resting- 4 days now- and I still feel as rotten as ever. No voice, sore throat, chest like a 40-a-day smoker and weak as water.

I am boring myself now. I need to get well. What else can I do to help myself?

Bumping this as I had come on here to ask the same question - I've had a cold for three weeks (so beaten you by a week debka Grin) and I really want to get well. I am exhausted and run down too, and just generally want to get my energy back and stop feeling so poorly!

I've not been as good as you and rested, it's a particularly busy time at work so I've had to keep going (trouper...) but I am fed up with a cough and having to blow horrible stuff out of my nose.

Please please please any hints on how to help ourselves?

I don't think you can cure a cold, but you can alleviate the symptoms. Night Nurse is great for helping you get a good night's sleep, which in turn will ensure your body has more energy to fight off the cold.

Have either of you discussed your symptoms with a pharmacist and asked for their advice?

Have had this one myself.

The only thing that helped me really turn the corner chest wise was finally giving in, cancelling work and hibernating on the sofa for three days.

Still am feeling weak and not myself even a good few weeks after. It's not as bad as the one time I had flu which wiped the floor with me for a month and half after, but it's along the same lines.

I walk about three km per day between clients and usually it's great. Right now I'm clinging to lamp posts and getting that horrible "done too much" dizzy feeling. While staggering about. Sure some people think I'm a bit pissed.

I'm going to go and buy those fizzy vitamins this afternoon to see if they'll help, but with some viruses (and their aftermath) perhaps time to recover is the only real medicine on offer ?

Trouble is, life often doesn't offer the time the body needs.

mine went on for 4-5 weeks , just carry on , keep up fluids so the snot doesn't clog up (lovely)
if you keep spiking a temp go back to doc

I used Night Nurse when my symptoms were really bad and it did help. I know I need to get more sleep, thats my own fault really as I don't get to sleep early enough. Going to address that though.

I used to exercise regularly, and haven't done that for 4 weeks. Didn't feel like eating so have lost a few pounds.

For me, it was more about after your cold symptoms have eased off, how do you get back to feeling well again - so I was thinking along the fizzy vitamin line too.

I had it! Five weeks and I'm finally feeling better (and have stopped coughing like a consumptive!)

debka · 12/03/2015 17:31

Thanks for the responses- good to know I'm not alone!

Took some night nurse last night and slept for ten hours which seems to have really made a difference. Still no voice and throat like razor blades, but fingers crossed I've turned a corner.

Wishing all other sufferers get well soon!

Iv had this! Monday I woke up weak and tired just wanted to sleep so gave in had the day of work spent the day in my pj's in bed! Worked like magic woke up Tuesday 100 times better! I had a cough for 3 weeks pretty much no sleep from coughing so much hurt my ribs and back and was full of cold. Apprently it's a nasty strain this year 90 days someone said the other day! It goes then comes back! Iv stoked up on vit c and zinc. Hope u feel better soon xxx

Chimichangaz · 12/03/2015 22:18

Still coughing and snotting ('scuse me) and I managed to pull muscles in my ribs from coughing so much. Not fun.

Went to the chemist tonight and said 'give me a magic potion to make me feel better'. Came away with multivits and minerals and glucose tablets. Plus he recommended using the Vit c/Berocca fizzies that I already have.

90 days???? Please god no. I don't get paid if I don't work either which doesn't help.

Here's to health & fitness (and early nights )

Get well soon everyone x
