I have a daughter and she is now almost 2 and 1/2. For the past few months my periods have been so heavy it makes me feel really self conscious. I was wondering if anyone experienced the same problem and if they have done something about it like taking the pill or a coil..... Is the problem doctor worthy, or fairly normal? I am 40.

Thanks!

I couldn't live with mine which are very very heavy. I use a mooncup which gives a ml measure up the side, and I was losing over 100ml per period which is defined as heavy.

I got the mirena coil but have finished having babies. And the hormone doesn't particularly affect me.

I now lose around 10ml per period. The coil hasn't shortened my cycle though, still every 21 days dammit. I could get away with no mooncup at all, but my knickers don't thank me for it Blush

I would see the GP because any changes to your cycle from the previous "norm" should always be reported. Heavy periods can sometimes be caused by fibroids so a referral to a gynae may be in order as well. You need to find out why this is happening as well as treating the current symptoms.
