well in theory
he doesnt see his eye iykwim so he knows he is going in for it to be fixed

Might it be possible for him to go and visit the ward before his op? This happened with DS1, we went round a week before and met the nurses, they showed him his room etc, it helped enormously and he was only in for a day.
