Craddle cap - 9 week old - HELP!

mama30 · 25/10/2006 17:25

My 9 week old ds has developed really bad craddle cap. I am worried some of his scalp is looking rather sore and has thick crusts/flares . I used almond oil daily for a week with no improvement. I have been using Diprobase (a stron moisteriser)also with no luck. Any suggestions? I would like to stay clear of medicines/steroids.

It looks awful, doesn't it? I was horrified when dd developed it! But honestly, it looks much worse than it is for them - unless he somehow gets an infection, of course.

I used almond oil every evening, then would rub it off in the morning - not too carefully, its ok to rub crusts off (so the HV told me). I also used a baby hair brush to brush some of the flakes/crusts off. I also used a special shampoo for a while - but not every day; can't remember the name of it but am sure someone else will.

To some extent, it just takes its time and passes in due course...but I do think the shampoo-then-oil regime helped along the way for us.

Try olive oil.

IME, olive oil and almond oil interchangeable - though possibly one smells better than the other

I have continued to use almond oil on the head with no luck. Just a warning: Diprobase seems to have reacted really badly on the face so I have stopped that. Any other suggestions please??

i found a lovely lavender shampoo from organic children that cleared cradle cap in a week.

Thank you very much for yet more replies. Quick question for ORANGES - which shampoo? the Baby Wash - Lavender or the Children's shampoo with lavender? I really want to give it a try. Also any suggestions for a face cream? My ds's face is incredibly dry, feels like sand paper and is constantly peeling. GP recommended E45.
