They fall within a (what is classed as) normal, but not optimum, range.
I would be looking to reduce that through diet (googling will tell you how to do that).
I woukd ask for a further test in a year and ask for it to be broken down into ldl's,hdl's and tri glycerides, because these numbers are as important as the overall.

thanks just got print off of them as others abnormal , but she said my good colestrol was good ...

I just had mine back at 5.9. My GP wasn't worried three years ago when it was 6: apparently the ratio of 'good' to 'bad' was great, plus I don't smoke and am not overweight Confused

I did get mine down to 5 in a few months that time, by drinking Benecol drinks every day and cutting down on chocolate/cream type treats. I also ate a lot of salmon.

This time, I've not yet spoken to the GP but will go back to my sensible (pre-Xmas!) eating with only occasional naughty treats.

thanks elibean , she said similar to me by sounds of it , said the guidelines were 5 but mine 5.4 and good colestrol was ok , but looking on my results there was an abnormal one of HDlL of 2.2 but i guess like you was looking at whole picture , age general health and risks etc
im 42
non smoker
dont drink well only the odd glass now and then twice a month
weight good 9st
size 10
...
was just a bit worried if should go back or go on a diet ..? just joined a gym and been 2 x this week ..hope that will help ..

Meh.. those numbers are fine.

So much information coming out about how high cholesterol isn't thought to lead to heart attacks and higher cholesterol in women is actually beneficial.

Do some research before you worry :) One of my gps doesn't care mine is high because he doesn't believe that it really has much to do with heart attacks.

75% of people who have heart attacks have 'normal' cholesterol levels.
Countries with higher levels of cholesterol tend to have less heart attacks.

There is loads more with better stats and science backing it up but this is a decent start. Not one study that has proven that high cholesterol causes heart disease hasn't been flawed. You may come to a different conclusion but I really believe that before long it will be a well known fact that high cholesterol does not causes heart disease.
