Terrible back pain after a urine infection

Hi wise mumsnetters. Hopefully someone here will know what's going on with me. Last week I had a really bad urine infection. I managed to flush it out with water and cranberry juice and the next day it felt a lot better. Now the pain has gone when I go to urinate but I have a really bad pain in my lower back that gets worse at night.

A friend of mine had a really bad kidney infection a year ago and has told me to get checked out.

Before I waste anyone's time, is it possible to have a kidney infection with no other symptoms other than needing to pee slightly more frequently and having the lower back pain. I don't have a temperature but I am a bit run down and coming down with some sort of chesty cold.

Help!

Yes, in short. Admittedly it's more usual to have a high temp with the back pain but a low grade kidney infection could cause back pain, malaise etc. I would say it could Be a coincidence and it's just low back pain nothing to do w kidneys. But surely it's v little trouble to pitch up at GPs, ask for a wee bottle, wee in it and hand it back?! You don't even need to "waste" an appt, the nurse will dip it and pass info to Dr who will prob call you/send you a msg if it looks suggestive of infection. Simples! Wink

Yes, could also be the water infection back. I ended up at A&E with back pain (nhs direct thought it might have been my recently fitted coil moving) and it ended up 'just' a water infection.
