No period - am I being silly to worry (not pregnancy related)?

I feel a bit daft asking this as I know women can go months without having their period, however I'm someone who has always been very regular (28 days).

My last period was on 12 January and I have had nothing since - I have aches and period related pain (ovulation pain), but had no spotting, no sore boobs or none of the other symptoms you might get around "the time".

I'm 45 years old so know I may be starting the peri-menopause - but it just feels so weird to have stopped suddenly.

I am booked to have a scan next month - the appointment was made before periods stopped because I was getting odd niggling pain and have had polyps and D&C (about 18 months ago) - so am happy that it will be investigated fairly soon.

When I think about it my last period was very short - 2 days heavy and then over by day three, whilst the one in December lasted about 12 days - though both started within 28 day cycle.

Does anyone know if periods can just stop? Is it possible to be "blocked" and having a period but it's not coming out? That's teh only way I can describe the feeling - it's like being on my period but without the blood or sore boobs.

Also - sounds silly, but is there anything I should be asking when I go to the scan next month? For what it's worth I'm anaemic and recent blood tests have found nothing wrong with thyroid, diabetes, etc...

Thanks in advance.

Periods can just stop with the menopause. That's the way it has been for all the women in my family. Obviously the important thing is if they have stopped for a while and then you start bleeding, you should get it checked asap to rule out some thing more insister.

Hope the appointment goes well.

OK, I'm 44, have always had regular periods(every 28-33 days) and lasting about 5-7 days. The last 2 months it has barely lasted a day, not enough for a regular tampon. It's usually heavy for 2 days then fades out. Haven't had the tell tale sore boobs for a week before either. DP had the snip 5 years ago and no signs of being pg. Wasn't expecting menopause just yet! I know what you mean pasta it seems so weird after years of regular ones. I'm waiting to see what happens next month.
