Hi does anyone have any experience of what I am experiencing? Since Monday night I've had excruciating pain across the top of my shoulders and down both arms, my legs feel as though I have pulled the muscles and when I it my clothes on my muscles feel like they are tearing. I've been to a and e twice, had a chest X-ray, ct scan and various bloods taken all have come back clear. Im now on prednisone . I'm sleeping loads but can't get comfortable other than lying in bed. My right elbow has been numb since Tuesday. What can I do to ease the pain and any ideas why it has come on so quickly? I'm 38 and a regular gym goer. Thanks for reading.

Hi sounds similar to me but yours sounds worse. I have found the cause of mine a disc in my neck and am having physio. Could you go and see one privately. Tbh hospital an hospital physio couldn't decide what was wrong. Mine were bit of neck pain really painful right shoulder burning shooting pains in arm elbow especially sore numb index an middle finger. Hope you feel better soon I was in complete agony. Still painful but much easier now good luck.

Thank you, I'll try and contact a physio. I've never felt pain like it before. I can't help thinking it's something viral, but I don't have a temp or anything just feel totally wiped out. Woe is meSad

Could be viral as so extensive but could also be nerve pain due to back/neck issue so physio would be able to advise if it keeps up. Assuming you haven't done anything mad in the gym for it to be muscle pain I'd try physio - they know tons

Thanks, yes I don't think it was a gym injury, as hadn't been that weekend. I've managed to get a physio app on Tuesday and an osteopath on Friday - do you think it wise to try both? I'm just desperate! The osteo I spoke to did suggest that it sounds like a disc problem, and I do recall a bit of neck twinge over last weekend. Sorry to be so self-indulgent, I know I sound a real whinge bag, thanks for advice!

I was wondering about an osteo too. You don't sound like a whinge bag or self indulgent it bloody agony horrible awful pain. Hope you are sorted soon.

Thanks, don't be nice to me though cause I'll cry! I just feel crap that I've spoilt our half term plans, have hardly seen the kids and now it's almost back to school. So I truly am a miserable cow Wink

Sounds spinal tbh. Do come and join us on the back pain thread. I've just posted a link to an Alexander Technique exercise which is brilliant for necks and certainly won't hurt you. Do hope you feel better soon. Trouble is when pain is acute the drugs make you feel just as awful as the pain itself.Sad

Whinging is normal - join us on the back thread as the lovely Matilda suggests and you will see lots of it! Grin Unsure about difference between osteo and physio tbh but I have a good physio I trust so am biased.

Just an update: saw consultant today who was fantastic and seems confident that it's a viral thing. He was very reassuring and although I still need an mri and nerve tests he seemed to think they will come back clear. It's been a hellish two weeks and I'm still in pain but at least I'm not as scared as I was before. Thanks for your support and advice, it's good not to feel so alone in the middle of the night!

Hi, sounds like a prolapsed disc. Get an MRI

tribpot · 01/03/2015 06:09

I'd glad you're getting some decent support - I've found the NHS' response to undiagnosed pain to be much more at the 'sod off' end of the scale.

Hope you're feeling better soon.
