Tonsillitis - do i need to go to the docs?

Have tonsillitis (day 3) and still feel pretty bad, although not getting fluey aches and chills the same as I was day 1 and 2 (found it hard to get out of bed). Caught it from ds1, although I didn't realise it at the time - his only symptoms were that he got a fever for 3 nights and was v tired but he was fine for most of the day - then he got better. Think it has affected me worse than him as I can't eat - had sharp chest pains yesterday but put that down to acid. I know it can be viral, in which case doc can't do much, so is it worth going? Don't really want to make the effort to go out - I look disgusting!
Also how long is it likely to be bad - any chance I could go back to work tomorrow?

Hi Ballbaby, i'd say that if you are not fit today-which you obviously aren't-then you will not be fit for work tomorrow. Also if you caught this from your ds, then presumably it is contagious and your colleages probably wouldn't be too happy!

Really try and rest up and just let it run its course, that way you will feel better sooner. I do feel for you as i have pretty much non-stop tonsillitis and having the sodding things out soon. Hope you're feeling better very soon.

DD1 used to get it very often, and I remember the doctors would never even think of prescribing anything for the first 3 days. But, if you think you feel a bit better today than yesterday it's probably viral and is on the way out now, so no point in going to dr.

But-- NO WORK TOMORROW. Definitely not!

Thanks for this. I really sympathise with those of you who have it a lot. This is my first time and I'm shocked how ill I've been in other ways - chills, aching all over, headache. Thanks for the advice - going back to bed now!
