I am really worried that there may be something horrible wrong with me. I am a regular just name changed for this. Starting I think in late October I had a really bad cough coupled with a gagging sensation sometimes in my throat. The cough was a real honking cough. I had several trips to the doctor who gave no medication but eventually I had a chest x ray which was clear. I had pain in my chest which I think was due to all the coughing I was doing. Everyone I met said I sounded dreadful and should not leave it. I became worried there was something sinister.
The cough seemed to improve somewhat over Xmas though it did not go. The doctor then suggested taking some meds for reflux (I must admit I did not take them) and sent me away again. In the last week the cough has come back . I am honking away again and the gagging feeling is quite bad. It does not feel like I am going to be sick (as this sensation is lower down) but a slightly higher up gagging though still at the bottom of throat almost like there is something that spasms? I have now got a sore throat as well. I also now have a pain in my back high up though this is not very acute. I do not have any tonsils anymore.
I simply don't know what to do. I don't want to wait months to see some consultant even if the gp does eventually refer me though 4 months in he does not seem to be in a rush. If I try and find someone to go to privately what type of person do I need? An ENT specialist? What does anyone think this could be? I know that the big c for throat and oesophogus does exist. I can't be more worried the I am already so fire away. Feel free to PM me if you would rather. Thanks.
