unsure whether to bother with gp or a&e so hoping for some advice.

I started a new job on Monday and when going into the office on Tuesday I slipped on the incredibly icy car park and came down hard on my bum and side. it massively winded me and left me almost immediately struggling to walk, sit, stand, lay down etc.

I am not interested in compensation etc from the company, they weren't to blame, they had gritted etc but then we had a really cold night and snow and it had frozen again but I am still in absolute agony. I cam barely sit, moving from sitting to standing the searing pain literally takes my breath away, walking up stairs etc is excruciating.

is it likely to just be really bad bruising or should inset checked out by a doctor/a&e? I have been popping ibuprofen and diazepam but ot isn't even taking the edge off it

Where's the pain ? Could you have cracked your tailbone or something ?

iwantavuvezela · 04/02/2015 19:01

I would get it checked out, it sounds really sore. At the very least they can give you stronger painkillers. Hope you get it sorted out soon, but do get it checked out, that sounds above bruising to me.

wheresthelight · 04/02/2015 19:02

notrevealing that's what is worrying me! the pain is just below the top of my bum but all across the top of my bum feels numb if that makes sense?

If you are in agony then you need to be checked out, it is surprisingly easy to break a bone from a standing fall. You need to go to A and E or if you have one near you, a minor injuries unit. Your GP (unless they have superman-esque x-Ray vision) won't be able to diagnose you properly without an X-ray/scan.

ThatBloodyWoman · 04/02/2015 19:03

Perhaps you bruused your coccyx.
Try arnica?

WeCameWeSawWePlayedConkers · 04/02/2015 19:04

Oh and good luck! Flowers

Glad to see you've decided to go.

lougle · 04/02/2015 19:31

Are you passing urine normally?
How is the sensation in your feet and legs? (I mean feeling, rather than whether you're in pain)

wheresthelight · 04/02/2015 19:49

Yeah albeit painful to sit. legs and feet feel ok just my bum that feels numb

Let us know how you get on wheresthelight! Hope you get seen quickly.

PurpleWithRed · 05/02/2015 08:22

Glad you are seeing someone.

wheresthelight · 05/02/2015 21:28

seen my gp this afternoon and have almost certainly fractured my coccyx Sad but needs an xray to confirm however because there is no treatment then the hospital are likely to refuse to do the xray.

Crikey! That sounds painful! I see their point in the xray front but still think I'd want confirmation.
Hope the pain eases off a bit soon.

MatildaTheCat · 06/02/2015 08:23

OP, if you say it was a workplace accident they should X-ray you even though you aren't intending to complain Sue. I once broke my toe at work and they weren't going to X-ray until I told them I wanted the evidence as it happened at work.

I would push for an X-ray because it means that if you need time off your new job or any adjustments you have an actual diagnosis. Also, if it continues to be painful you have a record of the initial injury.

Good luck, I hope it does get better soon. My mum did this years ago. I remember the shrieking. Sad

wheresthelight · 06/02/2015 18:06

spoke toothed hospital this morning and explained I had done it at work and they were quite happy to xray although I now have to wait 2 blinking weeks for the results which is pissing me off quite a bit!

they tell you not to bother a&e unless life threatening and then make you wait 2 weeks to find out of you have broken part of your spine!

am still in bloody agony but am getting better at finding positions/methods of getting up that don't hurt quite so much Grin
