Has anyone had one-sided numbness that wasn't a stroke?

Pretty seriously scared at the moment.

2 weeks ago I noticed a tingling under my right eye/sinus area. 2 days later it was the right side of my face from my eye socket to my jaw, only it felt more like the feeling you get in your jaw after an injection at the dentist iyswim?

Now my whole right side feels like that. I can use my limbs but haven't got full sensation.

Yesterday I saw an ENT consultant (was referred back in November due to vertigo/labyrinthitis symptoms), he's now referred me for an MRI and to see a neurologist. They don't seem to be in any hurry though which might be a good thing?

Back story: in June last year I was diagnosed with viral meningitis following CT scan and lumbar puncture. CT was clear. I'm taking comfort from that as I would imagine that a tumour or something wouldn't just have sprung out of nowhere over 7 months? I don't think it's a stroke either as I don't have paralysis, just the odd 'novocaine' feeling.

ENT consultant says he didn't want to/couldn't/wouldn't tell me what he thought it was, but wants the MRI to rule stuff out.

I'm also waiting for blood results for Lyme disease.

Don't know what I want from posting this here really. Reassuring noises maybe? Stories of similar symptoms with non-scary outcomes?

I have similar, no-one seems in the least bit bothered . My diagnoses are ulnar nerve compression (numb arm and hand); bulging disc in neck; shoulder and back stiffness; and "don't know" for facial tingling and leg numbness. Possibly "nerve hypersensitivity". Also some compression of an artery going to my brain which I'm "not to worry about, there's nothing they can do even if we do investigate, the blood re-routes itself anyway".

I'm reassured by the fact that it's been going on for over a year and I'm still in one piece.

Hopefully yours won't turn out to be anything serious either

Sorry for the total ignorance, but could it be Bell's Palsy?

God visions, we've had similar experiences then. I'm just living with it, but I am looking at restless leg syndrome which can be one sided. I do have a dx but it's quite rare so i don't want to post it .

Your symptoms sound very much like me at 12 years old. I had scans etc too. Mine was Bell's palsy. It's not life threatening and most people make a good recovery. But it can be confidence damaging. It's still slightly visible in me now, esp in cold weather, and photos seem to highlight it. I can't smile properly and can only raise one eyebrow, but I have the confidence to deal with it, teenage years were difficult though as I had a very noticeable droop.

I've just noticed I misread your OP. I had the tingling thing in face only. I'm not sure if Bell's palsy affects the whole body so my last post may be irrelevant.

I did when I was in hospital for an ectopic, turned out I had a serious bladder infection and need iv antibiotics

TRexing and INicked I may be wrong but I thought Bell's was a 'proper' paralysis? I have no sagging/droopiness, all looks perfectly normal, just feels weird. Sorry you've suffered with it INicked, and thanks for the offer of help. If it turns out I'm wrong (am only going by a brief googling and also having difficulty retaining information at the moment) I'll definitely take you up on it.

Blankie not sure fromyour post if it was the ectopic or the infection that gave you the symptoms but I don't think they'd be the cause for me (am certain I'm not pregnant, and have no other symptoms of infection - temp normal etc).

Visions sorry to you too, it's crap feeling like nobody cares. In truth for me this numbness is the latest in a long line of symptoms. My friend asked me yesterday when I'd last felt properly well and I had to admit that it was prior to becoming pregnant/subsequent miscarriage in 2012 I've been back and forth to the docs so many times since and always been/felt fobbed off. I think he only agreed to the ENT referral to shut me up! Felt good (oddly) when that consultant looked through my notes and said "wow, you've really not been very well have you?". First time in 2.5 years I've felt someone properly understood.

Numbty it was the infection sorry. It was the only symptom i actually had, apparently bladder infections can present in lots of different ways.

It was only discovered as i was in hospital for an ectopic but i didn't have a temp etc.

Hi. What other symptoms have you been having over the past few years? I had tingling/numbness in my face and arms a good number of years ago. I also felt really spaced out a lot and really tired and 'foggy'. I had blood tests and an MRI but nothing showed up. I'm sure they thought it was anxiety but I think maybe a post viral/ME type condition. I get it very occasionally now as well as the foggy head but nothing else has happened despite me being terrified at the time of it being something very serious.

I have had similar but without dizziness and it really only affected my face - the trigeminal nerve. I did however have fleeting pins and needles sensations on my hand and foot. At one point it also felt as if I had ants crawling all over my body. There was no numbness as such but it felt like an altered sensation. It came on each day and was always on the same side (the left). It probably lasted a month or more.

Mine happened over 10 years ago after suffering a huge personal loss and then other major life events all happening at once. I had an mri which was clear but neurologist did suspect MS or a stroke I think. I did sometimes feel a little spaced out and overwhelmed but that was more about the loss I think. As a migraine sufferer it was put down to migraine aura/stress.

In the intervening years, nothing much happened, apart from occasional patches of feeling cold or wet on my leg or foot. Also some migraine symptoms that were easily identifiable. Again, this was all fleeting.

Then, suddenly I got the face symptoms again this year. GP thought I was hyperventilating slightly and meds to bring my heart rate down helped enormously.

It is very difficult reading over the internet but really only a neurologist can diagnose. In the end, I saw someone privately as I was so worried and the wait on the nhs would have been too long.

When is your MRI?
Best not to try to speculate too much or Google or you'll get yourself in a right old tizz.

I hope you don't have to wait too long for MRI and results. But you'll get some definite answers then. Then is the time to use Dr. Google.

similar to just I had a spell (months) where one side was all funny and couldn't use that arm at all - finally scanned and treated as stroke but years later I now think it was stress (major family stuff going on at the time) as I haven't had another "stroke"

sounds like Bells to me though (and that normally clears up)
