Aspartame Poisoning

Guitarman · 20/10/2006 10:10

Hello all you Ladies,

I've been actively campaigning against the use of this chemical in the food chain for over ten years. Most of you will know how nasty it is, some of you will think it is "the only thing I can have because I'm on a diet".

I urge everyone to avod it at all costs! It is linked with Breast Cancer, Ovarian Cysts, Brain Tumours, Behaviourtal Problems, Birth Defects, Asthma, Eczema, Depression and a whole host of other problems. The list is supplied by the manufacturer not me!

I recently reminded my local MP about an 'Early Day Motion', he has now put his name to it. Please have a read of it. and also please take a look at Dr. Janet Hulls web site \link {http://www.sweetpoison.com} and read how she saved herself from having a Hysterectomy by stopping drinking Diet Croak.

Aspartame (E951) is the ONLY food additive with a health warning.

I can't eat butter, or at least not without a reaction to it. There are a few spreads without hydrogenated fats in, definitely worth checking labels though as several that tout themselves as 'healthy' are stuffed with the stuff!

Reformed meat I can't do...urgh....

EliBoo · 20/10/2006 14:01

Interestingly, I now loathe the taste of real butter - though I loved it as a child (and ate far too much of it).

rosie79 · 20/10/2006 18:31

I have a few things I feel strongly enough about to not eat or let my ds eat

artificial sweeteners (as much as I can avoid them anyway!)
margarine
processed meats and cheese (of the dairylea variety!)and other processed and packaged ready-meals
long life bread 9because it is disgusting!)

alex8 · 20/10/2006 18:47

being diabetic sugar is not an option for me sadly. I know about the dangers of asparteme and only have it every few weeks ago when the sweetness cravings drive me insane.

It must be fab to be able to choose to have sugar.

tubismybub · 20/10/2006 19:16

We normally have olivio, so hopefully that's not too bad, may switch to butter anyway. DH is upset cause i've thrown away his "No added sugar" squash which i've never drank and DS doesn't either.

Guitarman · 20/10/2006 22:37

Alex8, being diabetic you DO have a choice. Stop using that as an excuse.
Aspartame CAUSES diabetes and upsets the blood sugar level. Strewth, if only you'd do some research, that is what the Internet is for. The more you look in to it, the more you will realise that the ONLY people who say good about it are those making money from it or those paid a fortune to promote it.

Here is a nice one for you to read: www.rense.com/general50/asp.htm

Take care and read the labels!

GM.

'Aspartame ... upsets the blood sugar level'

hmmm that would explain a few things, as since I've gone of sweetened stuff (except for some tabs in my cuppa) my blood sugar seems to be much more stable...

as for dairylee... can anybody suggest an alternative? sometimes it's the only thing I can get into my skeletal dd (she does eat healthy wholesome stuff as well as 'junk') well if and when she eats that is

BloodyTenaLady · 22/10/2006 19:17

most of the soft drinks i have looked at have aspartame in them, has anyone got any alternatives to drink apart from milk and water?

HumphreyComfrey · 22/10/2006 19:23

Sprite is OK.

We have organic fruit cordial too.

horace · 22/10/2006 19:37

Will show this to my MIL have been trying to expain to her and DH about the evils of sweetener and marg for the last two years. Good luck with your campaign!

flack · 22/10/2006 19:55

That statement about marg being one molecule away from plastic is a myth, and would be irrelevant, anyway. Water is barely an atom away from hydrogen peroxide and that's POISONOUS.

Most margerines sold in the UK do not contain hydrog. fats.

The article that made the claim about one molecue away from plastic also said that if you put marg outside it would never rot, sorry, you try it; you'll find they all do indeed rot.

I think we should avoid asparatame if poss, too. But a lot of food additives have food warnings , aspartame is far from the only one. You can buy software the warnings get so complicated . I'd be more bothered about aluminium in several food additives, personally. Aluminium sulphate, E173, etc.

BloodyTenaLady · 22/10/2006 19:55

ah problem with sprite is ds5 doesnt do fizzy!!

fridascruffs · 22/10/2006 20:06

Drinks: I use pure grape juice well diluted with water (it's so sweet that a quarter juice to three q. water is plenty).
Aspartame: I read a while back that it had been rushed through the normal food checks in a dodgy manner. I remember reading way back that it passed more health tests than a head of lettuce, but if I ever drank a diet Coke (which I did infrequently) I FELT that it was bad. It gave me an odd headache. I decide a long time ago that I'd rather cut calories some other way, and I take regular Coke now. (and yes I believe Aspartame does do something to blood sugar levels, I felt that too after DC.)

Calpol: I know it's not very British, but suppositories get past all the problems of sweeteners in medicines, and for small children I find them much easier too (and they work faster).
Is margarine so terrible? I always check for trans fats but I'm not sure if hydrogenated oils are always listed, I don't think it's the law in Europe is it?

EliBoo · 22/10/2006 20:06

I give dd diluted organic apple juice, as well as water and milk, now she's a bit older.
My friend's dd loves elderflower cordial with fizzy water: she's four!

fridascruffs · 22/10/2006 20:06

DC=diet coke in this message!

mummisery · 22/10/2006 20:53

My ds wont drink diluted fruit juice does anyone know of a cordial that doesnt have Aspartame in

HumphreyComfrey · 22/10/2006 20:57

yummy cordial

Also available in organic section at Tesco and Sainsbury.

Katymac · 22/10/2006 21:00

Rocks & ordinay ribena don't have artificals in

disemboweledbint · 22/10/2006 21:02

tesco hi-juice and asda hi-juice but not their normal squash. and not every 'flavour' of hi-juice either. we get the blackcurrant one.

disemboweledbint · 22/10/2006 21:03

and if you want something fizzy, orangina's my favourite. it doesn't contain much rubbish and it has proper orange bits in.

mummisery · 22/10/2006 21:19

Thanx everyone

Little bit of an Update for you all

I've just had an email from a Doctor in the USA. In the state of New Mexico, the legislators are voicing concerns about Aspartame and it's safety.
Please take a look at this:- www.prweb.com/releases/2006/10/prweb453464.htm

Always read the labels.

i feel so bad at the amount of "sugar free calpol" my dds have had over the years. i thought i was looking after their teeth .

I am wiser these days - have a look at the Dr Greenfinger's range of natural medicines - you will love their "Cough Soother Syrup" nothing in it just honey, marshmallow etc. quite hard to find still, you can get it at mamatoto.co.uk

Furball · 23/10/2006 09:12

scary isn't it what we think we are doing right for our kids with 'no sugar'. But the point is now we do know and we do have a choice. The thing that bugs me is why it's sooo hard to buy something without all this crap in. Without thinking I bought chocolate ovaltine this week and have since looked at the label and surprise surprise it's got our little friend in there. crazy!
