Does anyone here have rosacea? Advice needed...

Have just been to the drs and have been diagnosed with rosacea. All the stuff i can find on the net seems different to what I've got so was wondering whether any mn's can shed any light.

It really wasn't what I expected the dr to say at all so am now a bit baffled.

Have been given a tube of metronidazole gel.

i have this. i use zineryt and moisturise with aveeno cream. use baby lotion to remove makeup and nothing else on my face. it has cleared up alot but i can still see it.

What's it like though??

I have three patches...one on the chin near my lip the other two round the bottom of my nose. Sometimes thye go really inflmaed and itchy and have little heads that have small amounts of goo underneath but sometimes thye really go down and don't look too bad at all. Have had it on and off for a few years but is really bothering me this year.

What's aveeno cream? Do you wear make up?

IPL or laser treatment can work wonders on rosacea but it's expensive. Zineryt can be effective too.

metronidazole is an antibiotic, is it infected ?

Zineryt is also an antibiotic. Rosacea is a form of acne and does seem to respond to antibiotics.

I thought it was an anti biotic as I had it in tablet form when i had an infection after having dd. But this is a really light gel stuff. None of the notes in the box of the tube mention rosacea at all. Just mention it stopping the smell from open sores from terminal and nonterminal cancers?

It doesn't seem infected to me but is definately unsightly and uncomfortable.

neena28, my mil had this and unbelieveably its cleared from her face once she retired from working last year, so with her it was stress related. also she saw a dietiican for food sensitivites, i know alot of doctors frown on that sort of thing but she kinda followed her regieme but she also had drugs i dont know whcih thou. the diet might be worth looking into too.

tomatoes can casue skin problems - as they are acidic and absorb alot of noisture in the body so the skin therefore suffers.

I've had Rosacea on and off for several years. I've had some laser treatment last year as my skin had flushed but dont really get the flushing kind. There are a few different types - the flushing kind (which I dont get), then there is papulopustular - which is the nasty lumps and bumps which I do get always on my chin. (Also there are types that affect nose and eyes - doesnt sound like you have them). I suffered very badly during my second pregnancny over two years ago and took erythromycin (as couldnt take tetracycline during pregnancy) and is usually works for me but is not at the moment - got a particularly bad flare up and been taking if for about a week and not improving yet! All the searching I've done for alternative cures/diets seems to refer to the flushing type which doesnt really affect me. This is probably not that helpful for you but you are not alone. When I was pregnant it was so bad that several doctors thought it was infected and it took a dermatologist to tell me that it was my rosacea again.

Would be interested to try a diet thing but would probably have to give up everything - have seen lists that include, tea, coffee, wine, chocolate, tomatoes and avocado (my favourite!) for starters! I havent had a bad flare up for ages and I am a bit stressed at the moment due to new job so probably not helping.

My gp diagnosed me with rosacea a few years ago, was on antibiotics for weeks, got fed up as the thing was not clearing. Went to see a dermatologist privately who told me I didn't have rosacea but seborrohic dermatitis which cleared pretty quickly with some antidandruff shampoo. I am telling you this because I think gps often don't understand skin ailments and it might be worth getting a second opinion.
