Had minor reactions triggered by peanuts in the last few years so I avoid them now. What I reacted to is a mystery. Had gone out for dinner, according to the list I hit from the chefs nothing in the dish should have kicked off a reaction. Scary hour or two, ambulance and night in hospital. Discgarged with an epipen and a referral to the allergy clinic.

Fast forward to this week. Having heard nowt I rang the clinic to be told I am in the system but there could be a 3 month waiting list. But it has really knocked my confidence ESP for eating out - I think the fact that there was nothing I know I'm sensitive to in the dish that set it off has made me esp nervous.

I sympathise with you! I have coeliac disease so can't eat gluten and it took me a long time to eat out again without worrying. I would just get ill though not react severely so I can understand your reluctance. The law was changed recently and restaurants are supposed to be able to tell you the common allergens in food when you order. In my experience though they are still not great e.g. Being told a soup containing barley was gluten free... It's very definitely not!

I think there was probably something nut based in the meal, maybe ground almonds or some kind of nut oil? I think if I were you I would avoid eating out (and processed food) until you have been seen by the allergy clinic. Hopefully that will be soon, maybe ask about getting a cancellation if they have any?

I had an allergic reaction to god knows what a few years ago. Ended up with two jabs in my behind and narrowly missing a ride to a and e with blue lights. Was given piriton as well but it appears I'm allergic to that too. Doctor was going to refer me for allergy testing but for some reason decided against it. Just told me to carry on as normal as we never did find out what I was allergic to. I'm also very wary about new things to my system.
