Hello.
This might be long. I apologise in advance.
I'm now 36, my DP is 38. We've been together for 17 years.
We have 2DS's , 6yrs and 21 months and have both agreed that our family is complete.
I was diagnosed with PCOS just over 12 years ago. I have horrendous pain and my cycle is erratic to say the least, ranging from 21 days to 80+. I have co-codamol 30/500 on repeat prescription but to be honest they're as much use as smarties.
Most of the time I'm doubled over with cramp and have even had to crawl to get to bathroom etc. My flow is very heavy and I flood through super max tampons regularly after only an hour or so. For this reason I'm usually considered anaemic.
We tried for 8 years to have DS1 and I was 20 weeks pregnant with DS2 before I knew it. Had a terrible birth experience with DS2 and knew straight away that I wanted a sterilisation.
I waited 19 months to ask GP for referral as I thought they may question my decision soon after giving birth.
I have my appointment for a hospital consultation but I'm now thinking that as my periods are so detrimental to my quality of life that I may ask for my ovaries to be removed or a hysterectomy instead of the usual steralisation procedure. I understand that ovary removal will send me into surgical menopause.
I just don't know how much longer I can cope with the pain & bloating I have or the fear of going anywhere as I bleed so heavily.
Has anyone been in a similar position or can anyone offer me advice? Is not a decision I've made without a lot of consideration but I don't know the liklihood of me being ofered anything other than a steralisation where I would still have the symptoms associated with ovulation.
If anyone can offer me advice or share their experiences I would be most grateful.
Thank you.
