Referred for ultrasound beginning of December still no appointment

Hi there, since September I've had a stabbing pain in my upper left abdomen. It's not too bad and fairly intermittent, some days I don't notice and some times its on and off all day.

GP referred me for an ultrasound at the beginning of December and I've not had an appointment date though yet, is this a normal amount of time? Only reason I'm asking is I can't chase up until Monday and the pain is bothering me this evening and as I've got quite bad health anxiety it's playing on my mind.

I'm hoping the fact the pain hasn't got any worse that it's nothing too bad Confused

I would chase up your GP on Monday. Times may vary depending on your area, but I was referred mid December for a scan and I had it last week. Ive also had a gp forget to refer me before now...

6-8 weeks isn't unusual, it's a busy department. I would ring the hospital department. If you're unsure of the number etc call your gps secretary as they will have the number you need and will confirm when the referral was sent.

My consultant referred me for an ultrasound after seeing him on 20th Nov. I had it this week, and the accompanying MRI is booked for 4th Feb so similar time spans to you. Your letter will probably arrive soon.

Thanks everyone. Spoke to GP yesterday who didn't have a clue, just told me I needed to wait longer.

My lovely DH managed to track down the ultrasound department that I've been referred to (there are a few different hospitals it could have gone to) the guy told him that the waiting list goes all the day to the end of march and to go back to GP if it gets worse.

I've woken up today feeling awful - tight pain across my chest, feeling light headed and dizzy. I'm guessing this is anxiety? god I'm a mess

I got referred at the beginning of December with similar symptoms, and have just had a letter through with an appointment for next week, but in the antenatal unit rather than the ultrasound dept because they're too busy...

Made an appointment with GP for tomorrow - will also bring up my anxiety as I think it's getting out of hand. I've never even told the doctors about it, just got on with it for years but some of things i'm feeling recently are scary

Geeky glad you've got an appointment I agree March is too long to wait. I hope the Dr is helpful and understanding, hopefully they will do an urgent referral for you. Would you be able to pay to go privately if needed? (I never would but lots of people can!)
