If antihistimine stops the vaginal itching does that mean it's not thrush?

allergic reaction of some sort? Washing powder, shower gels maybe

dementedpixie · 15/01/2015 16:13

or it could be thrush but the anti-histamine is helping to stop the itch. Do you have a discharge too?

RoseTheHat · 15/01/2015 17:07

anti-histamine will stop any old itch, no matter what it's caused by! have you treated for Thrush? May be worth it just in case.

Karoleann · 15/01/2015 19:23

No it doesn't.
Scratching/rubbing an area releases causes a histamine response in the tissues no matter what the cause. But an antihistamine will reduce the inflammation.

Yes have treated for thrush and is likely to be so as had chest infection so antibiotics which often causes it for me but would have expected it to work by now and still itchy except when I take antihistimjne

What have you used for thrush I.e. Cream, pessary, oral tablet?

wildpoppy · 15/01/2015 22:53

I used the oral pill one day and the pessary the next, with cream each day too. (I had it v bad after pregnancy and an op and lots of messing about down there and go said blitz it every way possible, so that's what I've done this time too).

wildpoppy see my thread re lichen sclerosus - have you been tested for that? Just wondered because thrush meds didn't work for me and it looks like that's because I have LS instead.
