Anyone taken norethisterone for Mirena induced bleeding?

I had a Mirena inserted 4 weeks ago and been bleeding ever since. Gp has checked there are no signs of infection and prescribed norethisterone for 10 days and suggested I take iron supplements. She did not sound v convinced it would work, and there are lots of people saying it actually made things worse. I have form for feeling crap on protestagens, the whole point of the coil was it was lower dose than the mini pill. Sad

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I was prescribed it for mirena bleeding and it made me bleed so heavily that the damned mirena coil came out after 6 weeks!

Thanks for the response gothmummy a bit more googling has revealed it is contraindicated if you are breastfeeding anyway so won't be taking it. I'm waiting for a call back. Not sure whether to wait it out or just get the damn thing removed now.

They told me that it could take up to a year for bleeding to settle. But apparently it does work well for some!

Worked for me after 5 months of constant spotting. Had nothing at all after this for a few happy years! Hope it works for you too OP.

I'm about to have another mirena fitted so will be asking for norethisterone again if I get the same initial problems.
