This is probably just me being a complete moaner but I feel so different this time than when I was pregnant with DD.

I have more on my mind what with worrying about the divorce and all but I just feel awful.

If I turnover in bed it hurts (this happened last time but right at the end!!), if I sneeze I get an excrutiating pain across my bikini line, if I get up it feel like one of my hips has given way and generally I have turned into the embodiament of my 94 year old great granny (well she would be 104 now if she was not dead!!)

Is this the case with most second prgnancies?? - Is there any hope for me or am I going to be moaning like this for the next 6.5 months!!

Twinkie, have you checked with your midwife? Sounds like it might be SPD - sorry

Twinkie · 19/04/2004 15:48

Did think about that but I am only 10 weeks and I thought you didn't get it until later!!

Sounds like SPD to me too Particularly the turning over in bed thing. I'm now 35 weeks and that in particular has got to be agony - and I can't lie on my side without my hip joint becoming very painful (but can't lie on my back because that's just really uncomfortable as well as supposedly "not good".

I sailed through my first pregnancy (well, at least I think I did.. perhaps my memory kindly blocked out the worst bits!) but really struggling through this one.

GeorginaA · 19/04/2004 16:27

Stray winky smiley, sorry.

Twinkie - I'm the same as you and my aches and pains have got a lot worse over the last few days (I'm 16 weeks). Every time I sneeze (which seems to be about 10 times a day now) I have to get my knees to my chest or else it's absolutely agony. My pain is in my groin/pelvis/hips and getting up is difficult and I wake myself up every night when I turn over in my sleep without clamping my knees together.

Twinkie · 19/04/2004 16:38

God yes thats it - sneezing is the worse and when I get up from the couch I hobble like an old lady - I must remember to ask midwife all about it when she comes round.

Think I am going to have to wear trainers for the foreseeable future till it stops anyway -hoorah no more heels!!

I felt awful in my 2nd pg too twinkie. i had awful abdominal pains for most of it and absolutely agonising pains just under my ribs for the last 5 months or so. I would sit and cry it hurt so much but i was told it was because i have quite a small frame (with a lot of weight on it i hasten to add!)i had it for the first but not anywhere near as bad as the second. i could hardly walk for the last two months...and i didnt even have a big baby...she was 5lb.

smellymelly · 20/04/2004 09:10

I had SPD from 4.5 months in my 2nd pregnancy, I feel so sorry for you getting it so early.

I was doing the pregnancy all on my own though, which was quite hard as I also sailed through first one.

If I sat down for more that 5 mins I just stiffened up, and could hardly walk.

Things to avoid :

  • Pushing trollies in tesco's / B&Q ( yes I had to do both and it was agony )

  • Hoovering - yes you now have an excuse not to do any of it!!

  • Walking too far.

  • The people who say 'you need to exercise and keep moving, dear' (inc. my mother) Actually the only thing to help this is REST, REST, REST.

Go and see your GP who will be able to refer you to a physio, I had belts etc, which helped just a little.

Aching moaning old cow here as well, felt about 102 at lunch time wobbling round H&M trying on maternity clothes that made me look 'fat', yes I kknow I am pregnant but I want to look celebrity pregnant grrrrrrrrr. I had to hold my bits (sorry) walking down the stairs (at home!!) yesterday as I felt like I was going to break in two.
