Is there a drug that temporarily stops your period?

Had mirena fitted two weeks ago, been flooding since period started last week.
I'd usually be fine with this, used to it, but I am going on holiday on Friday for a bit of "us time" with boyfriend, child free for first time ever.
Is there a drug to temporarily stop flooding, just whilst I'm away??
Or will GP say "let the mirena settle and you silly mare, you should have had mirena put in after holiday"? Sad

There is, northisterone or something, no idea if you take it with the coil though.

I had the same with the implant. The dr put me on the pill as well as the implant for 3 months to stop all bleeding. Since I've come off pill I've had no bleeding in about 6 months.

After my coil was fitted I bled for months
My gynae gave me norethisterone which worked and stopped the bleeding

Shannaratiger · 04/01/2015 10:47

Lasts even!

No I took it for about a month then haven't had any bleeding for 4 years Smile

pinkrocker · 04/01/2015 14:03

Northisterone here too. I've not taken it for a while though (GP gave me cerazette which does the job). I'm not sure how it works but it does stop the bleeding.

I took noresthisterone when I had the Mirena. It did stop the bleeding temporarily. Iirc, you have to start taking it 3 days before your period's due.

thanks all! Well I am going to GP later, will see what she says.
