I wouldn't leave it make an appointment in the morning I have been checking out bleeding today and any vaginal bleeding should be checked out a.s.p

Hi Coddy. I've got IUD fitted but not mirena, I'm pretty certain you should'nt be having this type of bleeding I think with Mirena there's virtally no bleeding at all 'cos of the hormones. Its probably best if you see yr doc asap.

LIZS · 20/04/2004 08:23

I think there are many possible side effects of Mirena and whenever I've been concerned my GYN has reassured me that all is ok. However 4 months continuously is a long time and best get it checked.

Hi, am new so hope you don't mind me asking a question! I had mirena fitted 3 months ago & had light period for a couple of weeks which the dr told me to expect, then nothing. However am now on day9 of very heavy & painful period, although has started to ease off a bit. was told could take 6 months to settle down, but just wondered if anyone else had had this with mirena?

Codswallop · 20/04/2004 13:11

I had mine fitted 4 weeks ago, and I'm just at the end ( I hope!) of an 8 day period - varied in heaviness, but wasn't painful. I was also told that it usually took 3-4 months to settle, but bleeding could go on for up to 6 months with some people.

You could phone NHS Direct for some advice if you're worried.....

Welcome funkydiva !

Can't recall anything as you describe although it took a good few months to settle down. However last summer (18 months or more after fitting) had 2 heavy periods out of the blue and since then just odd staining or nothing.

funkydiva · 20/04/2004 13:57

Thanks for replies and welcomes! Think may phone drs and have a chat with the nurse if it doesn't stop soon...

If you get what seems like periods with mirena in, especially after a period of no periods, PLEASE get in touch with someone to get your coil checked! This happened to me and I went to the doc to get it checked - but it was too late, the mirena had slipped out of place into my cervix (so threads still in the right place) and by the time I saw my doc I was pregnant.
Now have fabulous 4 month old dd2 but it was never the plan!!!

went to dr today. she said that it can take a year to settle down ans I need to make a note of when it happens( or more likely doesent).

As of course it stopped because of the appt!

Iw ondered if the fact that i bf for the first 5 months after it was put in would have delayed the " body getting usedto it" peiod but she wasnt sure/ thought I was barking. one or the other!
