poor ds (9 months) now has an ear infection AGAIN. Since beginning of Feb he's had two ear infections, gastro-enteritis, conjunctivitis. Co-incides with starting nursery and everyone says that's what to expect... but he's only been well for a few days at a time. Is this normal?

Eddm, it is normal, we're battling through similar with dd, now 8 months. You have my total and utter sympathy - we are on our fifth course of antibiotics, dd's bowels are not impressed, and as she has had FIVE perforated eardrums we are now the proud owners of a waiting list place to be seen by a paed ENT specialist.
Given that they are the source of all the bacteria, I hope your nursery are being sympathetic and not too militant about taking him when he absolutely has to be there...ours are very understanding.
Worth remembering - in four years' time your ds will probably have the best attendance record in reception. Our ds, also a daycare veteran, has a rock 'ard immune system and is the only child in his class with less than two days off since September. It does pay off in the end!

Eddm, my DS also had multiple ear infections in his first winter - he would just get a cold, seem to get better and then bang, get an ear infection. However we have got through this last winter (he's 2 now) with only one, so it does get better.
