Any nasty 'bugs' doing the rounds?????

DD (2.4) has just (in the past 2 hours) started crying uncontrollably, shivering - although temp isn't too high, coughing (trying NOT to be sick I think - even though I keep trying to get her to be) and breathing quickly every now and then.
She is lying on the couch and trying to go to sleep I think ...

I was just wondering if this sounds familiar to anyone at the mo ... and if so how long does it last?

Jeez, I hate it when the lo's are sick!

Temp now 'up there' - so given nurofen for children ...

Anyone have any words of wisdom for us???

hi, my ds has had a bug but not a really high temp- he was so miserable, coughing, wiped out.

he's fine now, except snotty nose, but I feel AWFUL - really really achey everywhere and no energy, sore throat...

hope she's better soon

EliBoo · 12/10/2006 11:13

Temp rising is the worst feeling bit, IME...as opposed to once its up there, IYSWIM. Poor dd, I hope she feels better soon - only bugs round here (touch wood) atm are chicken pox (that I hope dd will get) and a persistent cough/hoarse voice one that I've had.

expatinscotland · 12/10/2006 11:14

DD1, age 3.3, has that awful cough!

She was crying last night, b/c I think her throat hurt b/c she was a bit hoarse.

Nurofen seemed to help her, but she REFUSES to take cough medication.

liath · 12/10/2006 11:14

Hand foot & mouth going round here, dd recovering from it. Was nasty - fever then mouth ulcers, drooling & misery.

themaskedposter · 12/10/2006 11:16

A HUGE thank you to you dinny! Lovely to hear from someone ...

she seems to be slightly better at the moment (mangaged to get her to have the nurofen and some water too)but still 'wiped out' as you say!

I felt rather nauseous this morning, so I am thinking it may be a bit of a bug (or my cooking - heaven forbid).

Hope you are feeling better soon dinny, it is not very nice trying to run around after a lo when feeling 'bleurgh'

Thanks again xx

I think there are lots of bugs around. I started with a cold two weeks ago, which turned into swollen glands, sinusitis, etc etc i ended up on antibiotics. (I'm still v.weak) Dc are both caughing, ds had a mild temperature for three days and snotty nose. I laso heard that there's a stomach bug going around. Hope your dd feels better soon. I too hate it when they are unwell.

foxinsocks · 12/10/2006 11:19

We have vomiting bug in this house (hence my large number of hours on mumsnet over the last few days!)

ds started in the night a few nights ago - he is now right as rain of course - I haven't been sick but both dd and I feel like we have dodgy tums.

Of course, all this happened just as I had got to the bottom of the laundry basket for the first time in weeks sob sob!

themaskedposter · 12/10/2006 11:19

Really liath??? Your poor dd!!!!

Thanks for all the comments ... thought I was alone in the land of MN for a while there ...

you're welcome, Maskedposter

I am feeling so out of sorts - arms really achey now, like have overdoen it at the gym... is that from a bug, anyone think? and knees and back of neck too.

ds was really unhappy with whatever lurgy he had - had one night where he was knackered but obv had earaache and jst couldn't settle, even with Calpol, Nurofen. God, hate the thought of winter!

Hope you wee one feels better soon.

themaskedposter · 12/10/2006 11:30

Thanks all.

I will free you all up to do your good work elsewhere as dd seems to be not too bad at the mo.

However - I may be back (I certainly hope not for this reason tho!!!!!)

Thanks again - it really does help knowing you guys are out there!! xx xx

dinny, you defo have a bug - try paracetamol!

Those who've had the cough-bug, or have LOs with it, how long has it lasted? I've been coughing at night for ten days and am utterly totally wiped out (32 wks pg too) but can't quite 'get' that I'm sick - because not had a temp. Perk of being an adult, maybe.

Sorry to be a wuss on a childhood illness thread

expatinscotland · 12/10/2006 14:09

Eli
that damn cough bug hangs round for WEEKS!

i got it first, off the students here.

just now getting rid of it 4 weeks later.

EliBoo · 12/10/2006 17:30

Oh great

Thanks for letting me know though, can pace myself accordingly (or try). Hope yours is truly dead and buried!

Highlander · 12/10/2006 18:15

DS1 had a nasty virus for 2 weeks. Exactly as you describe - isolated febrile episodes that could only be controlled by ibuprofen; rigors. DH got it as well the day I left hospital with DS2. Lovely

The cough is the tail end of it and wasn't too bad.

themaskedposter · 14/10/2006 08:33

It was a UTI!!!!

Poor love had a temp of 40.5!

Got Antibiotics now - so hopefully the worst is over.

Horrible, horrible, horrible when they are ill.

Oh poor love! I'm sorry, and glad she's on the mend...hard one to spot, that. xx

themaskedposter · 14/10/2006 09:11
