C-sections from long ago - any still have lingering issues?

I had 2 sections, one 10 years ago and one 5 years ago. Healing & recovery straightforward each time.

However, I do still notice a weakness/vulnerability in my lower abdomen. It's not painful, but when I am getting run down or overdoing things, an early warning sign is always that my lower tummy gets tender & weak. Things like getting in and out of chairs feels a huge effort. I'm a pretty fit person so it's quite noticeable.

I've had other surgeries elsewhere on my body and IME things are never quite the same afterwards and you have a new "normal" to get used to.

It's not too bad, an annoyance at most. Just wondering if it's the same for others? If so, does anything help?

Yep, mine were 9&5 years ago with another due this may. numbness in lower stomach has never passed, still have separated muscles and always a bit of a pouch. Pilate's helps me feel stronger but think its forever damaged tbh

Thanks jenni yes that describes me too. I go to Pilates and I'm sure it helps, but it often feels like there is nothing in there to work with!

I had CS in 1999, my scar line is still numb and I get a pain in my side frequently, I have had scans and nothing was found..I wonder if it is adhesions from the surgery. My younger 2 were vbac's so I have only had the one section.

meglet · 14/12/2014 18:39

CS's 8 and 6yrs ago and a hysterectomy 5yrs ago.

The scar line is still numb and while I am pretty fit I can't seem to get back to ultra strong abs like I had pre-DC's. Leg raises / reverse crunches seem to be stuck at a so-so level. I swear blind the muscles are slightly separated still, I have a small lump above my belly button if I bend back, but the GP poo-pooed me Hmm.

I know I had adhesions after my second second because the surgeon had to "unpick" my uterus from my bladder when they did the hysterectomy. Although I hadn't noticed any problems in that area.

Essentially, I'm grateful I got through pregnancy and birth with no problems though. I can run and have a robust pelvic floor. Not got much to grumble about but I sometimes do.

Second section.

Adhesions happen to about 94% of people who have abdominal surgery apparently. I have them for other reasons but they do give me some random odd symptoms and pains sometimes.

Ah thank you to those mentioning adhesions, hadn't thought of this. Normal & to be expected I suppose.

The surgeon at my 2nd section said "I've done a bit of sorting out for you" and I did heal very much more quickly from my 2nd than my 1st but didn't really know what he'd meant! Must have been a few adhesions.
