My usually fit and healthy uncle has been admitted to hospital with pneumonia today.

He's 61.

It can be very serious if the patient has an underlying condition that affects their general health. Otherwise people generally get over it. Makes you feel pants tho. FioFio had it last year.

Thanks for your replies.

My eldest has had it too, and he was fine after a few days of antibiotics.

Am just in shock really as my uncle is usually so fit and well (which can only be a good thing I guess).

My aunt has had it twice, both times after the flu jab. She wasn't well at all, but she made full recovery. I think she was in hospital for about a week getting very very bored.

my SIL had it and took a few weeks to get over it with antibots, but never had to go into hospital for it - she had just had major surgery when she got it so this is why it took longer to recover I think.

A young friend of mine did die of pneumonia but this is very very rare indeed and does not usually happen to those who are usually fit and healthy. Your uncle is in exactly the right place and I'm sure he'll get better very soon.

Thanks.

The antibiotics have kicked in and whilst he's not well, he's a lot better than he was.
