so apart from giving him a lot of water to drink is there anything we can do?
He has had a couple of accidents wetting himself and complaining his willy hurts underneath not on tip. Doesnt look swollen etc so am assuming it is cystitis. He doesnt drink anything other than milk and water so cant do cranberry juice.

I think you will have to catch a sample in a clean container and make an appointment to see GP. It isn't going to go away by itself, so better to seek treatment. The practice nurse should be able to test the sample to see if it is an infection. Good luck - hope he feels better soon.

how long do I give it to see if its clearing?? He only complained this morning after a couple of accidents last night.

I would give plenty of drinks - see how often he is going, and how much wee he is doing each time. Does he have tummyache (low) or a temperature? If it is still hurting to wee in the morning, then phone surgery and see if they would test a sample. If he becomes feverish and ill, or develops blood in urine or backache or vomiting (all quite unlikely, so please don't panic), then you will have to get advice sooner - either NHS direct / walk in centre etc. HTH
