Blood in my wee

Lact8 · 09/10/2006 10:58

I've managed to get to 30 without ever having cystitus (sp?)

But I'm pretty sure I've got it now! Ouch!

Is blood in my wee part of it or do I need to go to the doctor?

Any tips on getting rid of it asap would be welcome too

TIA

cant help never suffered. but I would think you should go to gp

CountessDracula · 09/10/2006 11:00

Go and buy some sachets of stuff from chemist
And drink cranberry juice

mumatuks · 09/10/2006 11:00

Drink cranberry juice, that should clear it up!

Gillian76 · 09/10/2006 11:02

Blood in your wee can be related to cystitis, but I would have it checked out, especially as you've never had it before.

Cranberry juice is good for prevention, but in a lot of cases, you'll need an antibiotic to get rid of it.

Lact8 · 09/10/2006 11:02

Auntymandy, that's not the answer I want!

Too much faffing to get there with kids and buses. And the feeling I'm going to wet myself all the time too

please don't self medicate if you've not had it before. It may well be cystitis and lots of people whe suffer regularly, buy over the counter remedies. But this is new for you. I would have it checked out.

Lact8 · 09/10/2006 11:08

Thanks everyone, cranberry juice it is then!

Did a food shop yesterday so already got some in teh fridge. Will pour myself a large glass now

For those who've had it is it better to wee or not? Lots of little ones or hold on and one big one? Sorry for asking It just hurts so much

Cranberry juice is good. Go to the chemist and get some cymalon (sodium citrate) too - it will help to stop the wee being so acidic and hurting so much! (there are other brands but its the only one I can stomach)
Drink as much as you can force yourself to do........ of water. Tea, coffee, fruit juice can all make matters worse (cranberry juice doens't count...)
I would go to your gp - honestly. And if you get a temperature or any backache its a sign of a likely kidney infection. You only have one pair, so GO TO THE DOCTOR.

Gillian76 · 09/10/2006 11:20

yes, GO TO THE DOCTOR!

Lact8 · 09/10/2006 11:20

Thank you Donk, I needed shouting at

Have got lower back pain and when you put it like that it makes sense to go.

No appts left today, (I have to phone at 8am to make one) so I'll drink loads today and go Drs tomorrow

Cheers again

If the backache gets really bad - its ok to take paracetomol to tide you over until tomorrow

Lact8 · 09/10/2006 11:36

I'll wash some down with my cranberry juice. I've managed a litre since I logged on here so hopefully things will ease a bit soon.

I've got a prescription to pick up anyway so I'll do a dash to the chemist between toilet breaks and pick up some cymalon while I'm there

Thanks again

I've had kidney infections 4 times, the first time was from ignoring cystitis hoping it would go away. If you think faffing on buses with children is bad, try being in hospital for a week!

GET TO THE DOCTOR!!!!!

In the meantime, drink gallons and gallons of water, it lessens the effects of everything nasty and helps the pain too.

In answer to your wee question, I've found that taking a couple of painkillers helps the urges, then you can save up and do a big wee having drunk lots of water.

noddyholder · 09/10/2006 14:00

Blood is usually a sign of protein or infection Go to the doctors asap!

noddyholder · 09/10/2006 14:01

Cystitis is bladder inflammation and backache is the kidneys Backache is nmore serious than just the stinging bladder as it indicates the infection has travelled to the kidneys

Gillian76 · 11/10/2006 09:40

How are you feeling now, Lact8?

pindy · 11/10/2006 09:43

How did you get on at the docs? Hopefully you are feeling better now.

Don't be surprised if you get sent for a scan, they seem to do that routinely now when blood is found in wee.
