Took ds to the docs this morning to get his MMR. He is fine, btw

However as I was getting my New Patient Check I mentioned to the doc that I had got a pain in my side. She gave me a prod on the couch and I nearly shot through the roof when she hit the sore bit! Temp is raised and I feel sick too - so she asked me to keep an eye on it and ring her immediately if I felt worse. She suspects inflamed appendix.

That was this morning - still feel about the same tbh - sick and pain in my side, but totally bearable just now.

Please can you tell me - if it was going to be appendicitis, wouldn't it have got worse by now? (Started hurting yesterday afternoon on and off, more or less constant from 10pm last night). As you can tell I am hoping it will just get better and go away!!

I think you can have grumbly appendicitis. The severe pain on pressure is a pretty strong sign, from what I know. Is it better now? It can get better on its own, but of course if it bursts, you're in trouble, so you really do have to call or go in if it gets worse.

When I had it it just got worse and worse until I couldn't walk.

Doctor was called he shoved a finger up my bum (most degrading and took me by surprise as was only 10)

Then they carted me off in an ambulance, now that bit was exciting!

Keep an eye on it though! If in doubt go to a&e

BlackMagicMiaou · 06/10/2006 17:23

Over what period of time did it get worse, howwwwwlidaymum? (If you can remember that is!)

No, still got the pain NQC - can feel it all the time just niggling, feels worse if I prod. Obviously I will go to hosp if needs be but that is a looooong way away and I am the only driver - and if they keep me in overnight ds will miss his b/f so I am keen not to do so unless necessary.

I know it shows my age though

I had mine removed when I was about 11 but about a year before that I had a grumbling appendix where I was in pain for a while but they decided not to take it out that time.

I seem to remember they made me drink LOTS of liquid the first time. The second time it was V V painful and I was vomiting loads so they whipped it straight out

pointydog · 06/10/2006 17:41

Grumbly appendicitis. Or there are glands in your stomach that can hurt if you get a viral infection. That's waht medical people told my dd when she had the same symptoms as you.

creepydazy · 06/10/2006 18:03

As a child I had grumbly appendix my mum was always calling the emergency doctor out as her brother died from peritonitis and so she was always extra careful. In the end I had them out (aged 16) but I think was just because they were bloody sick of the sight of me at the hospital

I did throw up all over the ambulance man though.
