Has anyone here developed it in adulthood?? I am being tested for it at present but would be interested to hear from anyone who has it and how it began...

Hiya - My Mum and my Uncle have both recently been diagnosed as coeliacs althought they both have very different symptoms... My Mum was constantly feeling low and feeling a bit sick or having diahorrea whereas my uncle felt ok but wasn't getting any vitamins or nutrients absorbed into his body so was really really skinny and pale...

Anything specific you want to ask just give me a shout and anything I don't know I'll ask my Mum for you

Snap! Also being checked out for this. Do you mind me askig what symptoms you are experiencing, Spooky?

Hi jalopy.
It started about 6 months after dd2 was born. I had bowel problems and the gp and I put it down to the fact that she was 2 pounds bigger than dd1 at birth.
In the last 6 months the bowel trouble has got worse. Up to 5 episodes a day and nothing about it normal (sorry if tmi!!) I have been chronically tired and had alot of pain in my whole torso from just under breasts to pelvis. Also I am not a skinny supermodel mum like I should be!! I literally don't sit down from 5am till about 7pm and I have gained 2 stones in a year. Although I can be a bit naughty when I get on the computer and on MN and dip into the sweeties... dd1 at 4 1/2 eats more than me on some days.
I know that this could be a number of things and the doc is also checking me for thyroid problems too... Does this sound familiar or are your symptoms totally different??

Hi, spooky. Mine are a little similar to yours. Started to have stomach, abdo pain over the last few weeks. Lost a lot of weight. Intermittent diarrhoea. Bloating. Now tired and legs sometimes ache. Blood results normal (tested for thyroid, diabetes, etc) although not been tested for coeliac. Lower sigmoidoscopy fine. Endoscopy coming up soon. I will have a biopsy to test for it then. In the meantime on a wheat and gluten free diet for a couple of weeks and lots of buscopan for spasms. Not sure what to make of it all.

When I saw the doc he told me that gluten and wheat intolerances start in different ways for different people. This is getting more and more common - if it is coeliac for me... Very frustrating not to have answers when we need them but having to wait for tests and appointments and trying to get on with our lives too. I have days when I can't be the mummy I want to be cos I am so tired and in too much pain. I hate it. My plan now is to try to lose some weight. Doing that will help me and a stricter diet may mean less gluten intake so even if the tests are inconclusive my symptoms may improve anyway... here's hoping!
