Go to the doctors. I really think you should get it checked out.
I hate docs too but i couldn't put up with that every day.
Syndol tablets are very good for headaches. They are for migranes but i use them for any bad headache. They can make you feel a bit drowsey though.

nikcola · 14/04/2004 17:36

are they pescription or can u get them over the counter?

OP posts:
Nutcracker · 14/04/2004 17:44

You can get them over the counter. If they ask you if they are migranes you are having then say yes. They are in a blue box with yellow writing i think. They are really good.

I reckon u should go to a chiropractor or osetopath. Get your doctor to recommend one when u visit.
Could be your neck which is giving u grief.

AussieSim · 14/04/2004 18:11

This thread might be useful. Included is some advice about how I treat my migraines without drugs or chiropracter. Good Luck. PS - too many nurofen is bad for your tummy.

bundle · 14/04/2004 18:15

migraines can be related to your menstrual cycle so keep a record of where you are in the month plus diet, any stress (!) which should help your doctor. and a record of painkillers you take. if it is migraine there are sprays etc you can take if your stomach can't stand anything.

fisil · 14/04/2004 18:18

could it be a hayfever type reaction? It is really high pollen at the moment and dp has been really suffering - headaches and the like.

scoobysnax · 14/04/2004 18:22

try nhs direct for advice perhaps?

nightowl · 15/04/2004 01:33

ive had them for years. been diagnosed as sinusitus (spelling?), migraine, tension headaches, eye strain. Never really found out what they are for sure but migralieve tablets have worked and nurofen gel caps too.

nikcola · 15/04/2004 12:36

Nikcola, it would be better to get checked out by a doctor. In the meantime, you could try alternating the painkillers you're taking. Paramol, which is paracetamol and a codeine-type drug, is the strongest one you can buy over the counter. You could alternate it with the nurofen. I sometimes find that plain old soluble aspirin works very well, though it isn't suitable if you're asthmatic or have stomach problems. I take three at a time. It's very cheap to buy.

Taking too many painkillers can cause a headache, so that might be part of the problem, as well. Hope you feel better soon.

expatkat · 15/04/2004 13:33

Doctor. As much as you hate doctors, get this checked out. I don't think it's going to be anything bad, but after two weeks of this, you must have yourself looked at especially as it's getting worse. I'd go to a chiropractor as a second course of action if doctor can't help, but I'd definitely see the gp first.

Blu · 15/04/2004 13:33

What is it you don't like about doctors? It really does seem as if you should get this checked out, but maybe you could prepare yourself in a way that helps you make that appointment! (jot down what you want to say, practice saying it, jot down questions you want to ask, etc)

noddy5 · 15/04/2004 13:37

go to the doctor asap don't suffer indefinitely it may be the nurofen so best check it out

nikcola · 15/04/2004 13:46

I would definately go to the doctors if I were you, my husband kept getting headaches, really bad, sometimes he would lay on the floor for hours, turned out he was getting cluster migraines, he has tablets now which he takes every day and that keeps them at baby. Cluster headaches may go away for a few weeks and then come back for days or weeks, its not nice. Call the doctor today.

Blu · 15/04/2004 13:55

You are not wasting their time! Re-assured by the number of MN-ers who agree? If you went to the Drs every time you get a headache, you would be a time-waster, but headaches for two-weeks have some cause, however minor, which needs addressing. If feeling ill or unwell in any way is interfereing with your life, then that is what Drs are there for, and you, and your life, are worth it. Why wouldn't you be?

Hulababy · 15/04/2004 14:10

Could be sinusitus. I had this earlier in the year and it was very painful. Go to the doctors and ask them. If t is sinusitus they will prescribe antibiotics which will clear it up reasonablly quickly.

Twinkie · 15/04/2004 14:23

Sorry but demand to see a doctor - what is wrong with you is classed as an emergency if it means that it has a huge impact on your daily life and you have to take loads of medication - it is probably migrane but could be somethign serious (god I would phone them for you - I habt fucking receptionists!!) - do you feel sick - do you have any pins and needles - are your hands cold??

nikcola · 16/04/2004 02:37

my hands are cold yeh, i slep most of the day, i went to see the nurse and i have to go back tomorow to see the doc ive been told to get my eyes tested aswell, i hate docs receptionists too i supose they aint all bad but the ones at my docs are bitches,

i'd have an eye test as well. i had migraines badly about 2years or so ago. the gp just gave me painkillers with no reason about what was causing them. i asked if it could be eyestain, he told me it was highly unlikely but i booked an eye check anyway. turned out i'm short sighted and my eyes dont focus on the same point, so now have glasses and lovely eye exercises to do. have hardly needed painkillers since, except for a really bad migraine or when my neck plays up.
