Psoriasis...

I've suffered from pretty terrible scalp psoriasis for years and i've never seen any one about it, infact, its so bad I havent had my hair cut in 4 years, please some one help, I dont want to go to the doctor - any one recomend any products? or ways to cope?

Why don't you want to go to the Dr. Em? I was recently diagnosed with psoriasis, started on my elbows and finally went to docs when it was all over my legs and arms (following 2 bouts of tonsilitis of all things) and got some excellent cream. Took a few weeks to clear up but there was a difference almost straight away.

sorry to say this em .. but there's no way you can hide scalp psoriasis .. people will think you have chronic dandruff ... visit the gp and see what they suggest .

try warm oil treatments ... olive oil is good .. leave it on for an hour or overnight and wash out

try some of the otc shampoos .. t-gel does one specifically for psoriais .. sometimes the Head and Shoulders can work .. or sometimes just try a really mild one (nick your child's)

it is extremely difficult to treat scalp psoriasis

you may find some photo-treatments of help .. special uv ray light sources ... again ask your gp

You really must go to your GP - don't worry, they will have seen worse (and other cliches). I don't have psoriasis but I do have eczema and once I got the proper treatment I wished I'd done it years ago.

ds1's GP thinks he may have it.

DH suffers from severe psoriasis (and psoriatic arthritis) He applies olive oil to his scalp to help plus uses a prescription shampoo. TBH the only way you can treat it is with prescritpions so go to your GP. Beleive me he/she will have seen a lotworse things than this.

Really, doctors see a lot worse than psoriasis every single day. If you are very frightened, could you take someone with you?

Sorry - hijack warning - CovenOVeneer, have you found it hard to get life insurance for your DH with PA? Asking because ours is exorbitant on account of DH's condition (also has PA).

No it wasn't a problem as we got our life insurance prior to him getting arthritis (and currently it isn't too bad).

Life insurance - just your bog standard stuff. They tripled the policy price because of it!

I get psoriasis on my feet; nothing from GP helped but Soothe-It from www.alvanatural.co.uk that I discovered at our Farmer's Market works a treat!

JT - it's called Dovonex. A little slimy (!) but does the trick, though I think for me it will never completely go away and will always recur. Don't know if this is always the case. Also, my psoriais really lessened in the sun this summer and I think for most people it is true that the sun helps.

Dovonex ointment works like magic for DH. It's much better than the cream.

I have scalp psoriasis, it is the pits.
this stuff is the business scalp oil and cream/ointment.

I use T Gel - but don't know that it is specifically for psoriasis - am I using the wrong one? it is for sebhora dermitisis or something.
Mins seems to be getting worse as I get older - anyone finding that?
I use dovenex on and off - it seems to clear up my elbows a bit - bit then I was getting little patches on my forearms. Do you think this could be linked to the cream or just a co-incidence?
