Medial and cruciate ligament repair

I had a repair done to these ligaments about 20 years ago (same knee, same time, same accident). Since then I've had the odd painfull episode which resolves itself in a couple of days, however for the past 3 weeks my knee ahs been agony- there's no swelling but a definate painfull area where the medial ligament runs (can actually feel it)and also a pain just below the knee cap, these pains are constant but much worse walking up an down hills - I do walk a lot and it's gettting to the pooint where i can not sleep at night- I do take paracetamol and brufen which ease the pain but don't get rid of it .

Has anybody suffered the same and what is the next step? Have mae GP appointment who I feel will probably refer me for physio or back to the orthopods , don't want a knee replacement- I'm only 38!!any ideas what I can do tio ease it/

I had a cruciate ligament repair done 12 years ago. 2 years ago I started having problems simialr to those you describe and ended up having another operation (to tighten it up again as apparently the first repair had gone baggy!) and some physio. I guess you'll have to go along and see what they say, one thing I would say is that things seem to have moved along massively in a relatively short space of time - first op I was in pain for ages and hospital for a week, this time I was out same day and it was a lot better. So don't despair!

Thanks Docket, wasn't aware that they could go baggy! Glad that things have moved on, also spent a week in hosp, 6 weeks in plaster etc, can't affor that amount of time now!
