I Found A Lump In My Breast

cleanasawhistle · 04/11/2014 12:32

Found it on Friday.
Managed to get an appointment with my GP yesterday morning,he was really nice and tried to put my mind at rest.
I have just had an appointment through the post for Wed 12th Nov.It says I will be diagnosed on the day.
The weekend was so long waiting to phone my doctor and now I have to wait over a week for the next step.
I think the not knowing is the hardest bit so far.

Thinking of others going through this.

My dh insists on referring to my breast cancer support group as 'Tits Anonymous'.

Green18 · 10/11/2014 17:15

the grey lady- love that!

cleanasawhistle · 10/11/2014 20:58

I'm not feeling scared anymore.
A bit nervous but thats it.

So glad I posted on here ,thanks everyone.

Thinking of Norfolk for tomorrow.

Norfolk and Whistle, will keep you both in my thoughts xx

Green18 · 10/11/2014 21:55

That's good cleanasawhistle. Remember 9/10 xx

Norfolkandchance1234 · 11/11/2014 16:05

Cleanasawhistle - good luck tomorrow - my mammogram went well today. The consultant decided I didn't need an ultrasound which I guess is a good thing although I now regret not insisting I had one as I was booked in for one.

Green18 · 11/11/2014 16:32

That's great norfolk. I'm sure if you needed one they'd have gone ahead.Hope you don't have to wait too long x

Norfolkandchance1234 · 11/11/2014 16:42

The thing is my friend this morning told me how her mums breast cancer didn't show up,on the mammogram but did on other tests. I promptly forgot this till I was on the bus coming home. I'm really annoyed they didn't do the ultrasound as stated in my letter and more annoyed at myself for not insisting.

financialwizard · 11/11/2014 16:58

cleanas both my Mum and I have had these lumps and they were all benign cysts. Will keep my fingers crossed for you because I know how scarey it is waiting.

helzapoppin2 · 11/11/2014 19:56

Good luck for tomorrow!

cleanasawhistle · 11/11/2014 20:09

Thanks for the good luck messages, hopefully I will on here tomorrow night / Thursday morning with some good news.

I hope you are ok Norfolk x

Norfolkandchance1234 · 11/11/2014 22:05

Thank you Frances I will do that.

Cleanas - make sure you insist on whatever you are booked in for - I was in to much of a daze not to. And good luck with it Flowers

knittedslippersx2 · 12/11/2014 12:14

Hope all goes well today.

cleanasawhistle · 12/11/2014 17:45

I'm home.
I was examined and drew on.
I went for a Mamogram.
Then I went for a ultra sound, she then did a Biaopsy.
Went back to see the doctor and she said definatly NOT a cyst.
I tried pushing her but she said she couldn't tell me anything else until the biopsy results come back.
I started crying,I was sure I would be told today and had prepared myself for whatever but the frustration of having to wait another week got to me.
So I go back next Wednesday but I am sure I already know the answer.

Please give me your honest opinions...
and thank you so much for your messages, means a lot x

Cleanasawhistle - I have been lurking on your thread. Surprised to hear it isn't a cyst as the way you described it it sounded like what I had (a cyst).

Sorry you didn't get a firm diagnosis today and that you have to wait another week. I don't think the NHS realise how stressful it is for people to wait to find out.

Hopefully it will be a breast mouse or something similar as mentioned by other posters. Most lumps are benign - that's the thought to keep at the front of your mind.

Sabrinnnnnnnna · 12/11/2014 20:09

Hello my love, I'm sorry you're still in limbo.

My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer in 99. She was told it was 'probably' a cyst - but then came the news that it was breast cancer. I want you to not be afraid if you get that diagnosis - 15 years later she is still with us and now categorised as cured.

She had a lumpectomy, chemo, and radiotherapy. It had spread to her lymph nodes, but no further. They removed some of those too. She had tamoxifen, I think, for 5 years.

I hope this gives you some hope - there are dark days, but it's not the end.

Mrscaindingle · 12/11/2014 20:13

Of course the NHS realise how stressful it is to wait for this kind of news but the Dr is not going to say what she thinks it may be unless backed up by evidence as she may be wrong.

Sorry Op it is very hard to build yourself up for news today and still have to wait. I have had several cysts and 1 fibroid over the past decade so know how you are feeling. As others have said it is more likely to be benign, will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Mrscaindingle · 12/11/2014 20:17

And I also know people who are still going strong 20 or 30 years after getting the worst news and in the days when treatment was much less advanced than it is now.

I am also waiting for an appointment at the breast clinic for what I hope is another cyst but of course there is always that doubt.

LemonChicken · 12/11/2014 20:24

Whistle, I can only imagine how petrified you must feel. I was so hoping it was just a cyst .......

again though, remember the statistics. the vast majority of breast lumps are benign

and I know that's easier for me to say than you to live with for every minute of the next week

you asked for honest opinions, mine is....

the stats are firmly on your side

(as are all of us xxx)

helzapoppin2 · 12/11/2014 20:41

cleanas, sorry they didn't give you an answer today. Blast!
My story is the same as Sabrinnnnnna's mum's.

cleanasawhistle · 12/11/2014 21:08

Thank you all for replying.
Don't know how I feel right now except very sore and wondering if I will get comfortable enough to sleep.
Also wondering how can I possibly have a shower and wash my hair without getting this dressing wet....anyone got any ideas....I do like a shower in the mornings.

OP posts:
Green18 · 12/11/2014 21:53

So sorry you didn't get to leave this all behind today. Try hard not to jump to conclusions, some doctors give you more info or their opinion before the hard facts are in and others don't in case they are wrong and give you a false impression. Sending positive thoughts x

mrsrhodgilbert · 12/11/2014 22:45

Hello clean, I'm from the tamoxigang thread and I spotted this. I understand your anxiety now about having to wait, it's the worst time and the news, whatever it is, comes as a blessed relief. With regard to your question about your dressing, if its just small after a biopsy you'll be fine to shower. Pop on over to our thread if you like, we're a friendly bunch and full of experience, advice and support. Some stay for just a few days, others longer.

savemefromrickets · 12/11/2014 23:41

My story is the same too, I am newly diagnosed and it's amazing how quickly you get over the initial shock and start working out your plan of action. It may come to nothing or it may not but actually the waiting is the hardest bit I've had so far.
