What do I put on Allergy/Nappy rash? Due to pasta sauce?

My DD 2yrs and 4 months and still in nappies has a really red raw rash. Started on Sunday and the only thing we can figure may have caused it was a jar of pasta sauce, I know that tomatoes can be quite acidic could this be the cause?
What would you advise I put on it? She is in real pain when I wipe her, it really seems to sting. I do not want to put anything on that may cause her to sting even more. Should I just stick with Sudocream? Metanium any good?

I used to swear by metanium when mine were in nappies, but be aware that it stains clothing.

As for the stinging just use plain water and gause, perhaps dry gently with a hairdryer (honestly!) let her have as much nappy free time as possible too.HTH
