Sore throat/cough on immunosuppressant drugs?

Anyone had this? When should I be concerned? Started as a sore throat middle of last week and spoke to gp on Friday who said to call back tomorrow (Monday) if it wasn't better. I've now got a cough which is irritating my throat more, ouch!! Plus I feel like I need to cough phlegm up but nothing there. Oh and shaking. Voice is also on it's way out Sad On humira for inflammatory arthritis.

Hi there,
I've been on Humira for quite a while now. I'm pretty sure I've had coughs and colds during that time but never really thought much about it tbh.
It would make sense to call your Gp back today as s/he said that you should. I also have access to a part time helpline staffed by the rheumatology specialist nurses so would.probably give them a call if i was worried although they don't provide an immediate response. Do you have anything like that?
Sounds like you need to tuck yourself up with paracetamol and honey and lemon and whatever the gp might prescribe.
Hope you are feeling better soon

I'd ring your consultant's secretary and explain. They can then pass the info on to your consultant and, if they think there's an issue, they may ring you back with info.

It's more than likely just run-of-the-mill issue but it might ease your mind.
My GP is good but knows little about the treatment regime I'm on (which includes Infliximab) which is why I'd ring the consultant's sec.

Good idea gobbin. In fact, on the one occasion I did ring the helpline the nurse got the consultant to ring me back anyway. He was very helpful.

Thanks for the replies. Been back to the gp this morning and he's happy it's just a virus but I had some bloods done Friday and they've come back showing I'm slightly neutropenic. Nothing serious but just lower than they'd like. Spoke to my nurse specialist and got to get bloods redone in 7-10 days and stay off the humira til they're happy with my bloods. Feeling shattered and throats bloody killing!

I've just remembered that his happened to me on one occasion. I had a routine 6 monthly appointment with blood tests and it just so happened I had a sore throat at the time and they came back showing increased white cells (I think!). Repeated bloods a week or so later and results were fine. Hopefully will be the same for you.
Take it easy.

Thanks marshy, I feel ill. Not had a virus like this in a long time! Rang work and told them I definitely won't be in tomorrow. Coughings really hurting my throat and making me feel sick. Can't wait to feel better again Sad
